What day will Geno get fired?

  • #2
It might not happen at the end of the season because of the delay in getting a new AD in place. So maybe not until late March or early April.

Why wait? It should be Friday after Thursday's loss in St Louis. I do agree that the new AD should be selecting the new coach, but the sooner the better.

The new AD must be in place before Geno is fired. It is not the BOTs job to do this. The AD should fire him then recruit and hire the new coach with the BOTs OK.

It's either at 3:30 on Sunday, March 8th (just after the conclusion of the MVC championship game) or Monday morning, March 9th. We have an AD in place until March 15th and a University attorney - there's no reason why he (Geno) can't be let go immediately after the season. One of the assistants gets labeled as "interim" so that somebody is officially in charge - that's all that needs to happen. The sooner this gets handled, the sooner we can start all of the EEOC garbage that has to occur in the hiring process. Since JG (and technically MC) were the ones responsible for the hiring of Geno Ford, the least the BOT can do is have the dirty work (his termination) occur under their watch.

I believe when SIU fired Lowery, it was done the same night after losing in the first round of the Valley tourney.

You have a good memory. Lowery was fired on Friday, March 2nd - just a few hours after the Saluki's lost in the play-in game ( I believe to Indiana State??). I think it has been fairly common practice to not up-stage the tournament and wait until after the championship game to fire these coaches - but Lowery wasn't quite so lucky! Personally, I could care less if Geno gets the news Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday - as long as he gets the news!

The sooner the better. iMO there is some urgency required since the longer we wait, the greater the likelihood we would lose some players we are going to need like Josh,Nate, TS, etc....There simply isn't going to be enough time for the new coach to bring in many new players before next year so he is going to have to go with what we have. If we linger on Genos firing, kids are going to get restless and leave before the new coach is on board.

there are currently four teams in the Valley whose fans are hoping for news of firing by Friday or Saturday in St. Louis
(BU, SIU, Missouri State, and surprisingly Evansville)
So which team will be first - I don't think Lusk will get fired - they just gave him a nice extension - too costly

BU will be the only one.

The BOT's can fire the head coach anytime they want. A new coach should not be hired until a new athletic director is hired. The only coach that could be hired and bring in recruits for next year would be a junior college coach. That isn't going to happen.

Here is how I think it will happen. A new athletic director will be hired before the Valley tournament. Geno will be terminated when BU is eliminated from the tournament or shortly thereafter. An interim coach (Chin Coleman) will be named in an effort to keep Cunningham here and to keep some type of control. A new coach will not be hired until the later part of April.

At that point it will be too late to land any type of bona fide recruit. All efforts will be spent on signing recruits the following fall and spring, when ample scholarships are available. We have another year, at least, of watching this garbage.

Maybe the next time the light at the end of the tunnel is not another train.

If we are retaining Coleman and maybe some of the rest of the staff, could they not be contacting recruits. Maybe they could be arranging campus visits.

Yes, as long as any coach is still employed, he can continue to recruit (as long as they comply to the NCAA recruiting rules and calendar).

They can but do you want them too? You have been watching the players they have brought in.
