I believe you are really onto something important. Social media is relatively new and is an incredible weapon in the war, for the recruiting of potential athletic directors, coaches and student athletes. People can find out on message boards, twitter, and facebook, how a university and it's supporters handle different situations. Every negative comment about a current player, will be used against us. Leaks that come out of the university and posted on the same social media listed above, can also cause a prospective candidate to say, "Nobody can keep their mouth shut about personel matters. I'm not getting involved in that mess".

Social media can be a lot of fun and informative. We as Bradley fans need to be careful, that things we post won't be used against us or the university or viewed negatively by those we may want to invite to be a part of the university.

Almost every team in the NCAA has a website similar to this one. In almost every one of them there are threads dedicated to things including "fire the coach" and "so and so player isn't living up to the hype" and "i wish that player would transfer."

For programs like Bradley that are experiencing many consecutive years of horrific disappointment, those thoughts are more prevalent. If directing a potential recruit to those types of websites is a common tactic, it is short-sighted and ignorant of what the internet is, a place where people use anonymity to blast any and everything. I don't have the evidence, but I would bet there are people on a Kentucky fan site throwing shade on Alex Poythress and people on a Duke website that are/were trashing Rasheed Sulamon.
        Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

It is all of the things you mentioned. That is one of the things that make recruiting a nasty, cut throat, stab you in the back business.

I never thought it was wrong back then - only a little disrespectful...
so maybe you are right - which, for the record, is why last week I clearly stated I'd rather wait for the info to be officially announced..

but the first prediction of a major housecleaning being made in order to save our athletic programs from becoming DII and a national laughingstock...
was indeed made here more than a couple years ago...
and pretty much a MAJORITY of good, regular attending Bradley fans all saw it at least 2-3 years ago which is why half don't even go to games any more

When Kirk Wessler wrote his "Time to turn the page" column in January - he pretty much borrowed every word including the title from a thread here well over a year earlier....which of course was wizard's sudden realization that we've saying for over two years before that was 100% right and prophetic.

I have a correction for Dave Reynolds...

              his line in today's column...LINK
"Bradley athletics lost nearly $18 million over the past three years"

              is incorrect....
recall, that the losses were intentionally UNDERSTATED and hidden in the May 2014 reports...
and that BEFORE the more accurate figures were made known, this is what was said....
The losses in the Department of Athletics are:
              2011-12 $5.915 million
              2012-13 $5.940 million
              2013-14 $5.800 million
BUT!!!!......... this is the figure that was found to be FALSE, and is actually
              $7.1 million

Here is the quote from the committee report made available to the Board late November:
" the actual Athletics loss ballooned to over $7.1 million in 2013-14"
..(and it might be noted that a couple people were specifically reprimanded by the board for providing misleading info - and I think some of those people will be included in the housecleaning)

so the total losses are not $18 million over 3 years but actually $19 million

Lefty ,after reading some post on another board ,I wanted to come back to this post to read what we had posted that ruffled so many feathers. I know it had something to do with the difference between getting fired and retiring and how it was reported but guess what. Poof the magic dragon appeared and they were gone like the wind. I guess not all people's opinion matters.

No, the board has always had a policy against flaming and posting off-topic stuff. Thousands of fans come here to read the info that even the PJ Star doesn't have, or refuses to print. What has been posted here about this topic has turned out to be 100% accurate.
When we get complaints from posters about numerous off-topic posts that muddle up a significant topic that is of high interest, then those posts will be removed. Don't feel so picked-on, many of them were my own posts.

But one other policy still stands- if someone does not like the opinions and facts posted here, they are encouraged to ignore or stay away. We do not welcome posters butting in on topics just to tell someone else they don't like what they are saying or telling them that they can't say it, or lecturing moderators on how the board should be run.

I will also warn, that if the parsing and picky haggling over choice of words or punctuation, or the criticism of moderating starts again, those posts will be removed.

It's fine really wily. I really didn't mean to create a firestorm but sometimes we really get caught up in it all when opinions differ......

Probably what happens when controversy off the court is discussed more than play on the court.......

When was the last time anything on the court was worth discussing?

One thing I think we can ALL agree on is the play on the court leaves a whole lot to be desired.

A lot of people are disagreeing with different topics on this board but there is one constant that runs thru all this: we all have a passion for Bradley basketball and want to see it succeed. The Bradley family!!!

President Joanne K. Glasser thanked Dr. Cross for his service to the University and his commitment to academic and championship success.

If "championship" is reserved for the classroom, then maybe this fits.
