    CU going broke?

This is what happens when college sports becomes too big a priority vs academic achievement and character development for a university.

What kind of conference would the Missouri Valley be if Creighton, Cincinnati, Louisville, St. Louis, Memphis State, Tulsa had stayed. How strong would we have been then?
All of the teams that are mentioned above, left because of the ability to generate more revenue in their new conferences. Even though Creighton is down this season, their conference will get at least 1.5 million dollars for first round games in the NCAA this year, divided among member schools. Additional money will be divided as teams advance. There's no way they'd get that kind of money in the MVC. Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis State and Tulsa all play football and are in conferences that have multiple teams going to bowl games and once again, paying out pretty good amounts of money among conference teams. St. Louis is in a basketball conference that has multiple generating post season revenue in the NCAA, that is equally divided among fellow conference schools. The grass was much greener on the other side for those schools.

It would be nice if they would have stayed in the Valley, however realistically the MVC just can't offer what other conferences with football and bigger media markets can. It is all about the almighty dollar.

To verify it, that is why the rumors are flying around town about possible changes on the hilltop.

The Mountain West schools all play football, so they would not receive any of the football money there and probably would not be welcome in the MWC.
The A-10 is basketball only, but the closest schools are St. Louis, almost 500 miles away, and Dayton, 800 miles away. Every other school is more than 1000 miles away from them. Plus St. Louis and Dayton will probably be leaving the A-10 in the next couple years as soon as the Big East decides to expand.
The Big East has the same geographical problems as the A-10, and if the Big East ever expanded, there are several better options for them than Wichita State (St. Louis, Dayton, Memphis, Cincinnati, VCU, and others).
Every other conference worth considering either has the football issue or is a step down from the MVC for them.
St. Louis and Dayton would be good fits for the Big East, due them being private/catholic schools that don't play BCS football. Memphis and Cincinnati will not leave their conferences for the Big East, because they don't play football in the Big East.

I still believe Wichita will have an opportunity to join the Mountain West, at some time, even though they don't play football. The Mountain West is a unique conference in that it has associate members. For example, Hawaii is an associate member of the Big West and only participates in football. The Big West has been looking to strengthen it's basketball ever since losing, Utah, Brigham Young and Texas Christian. Their football is pretty well set with two divisions of six teams. Hawaii is a conference member, similar to the way Dallas Baptist is to the Missouri Valley (baseball only).

You mean traveling to Providence, Rhode Island for multiple sports can be a costly venture? Hm.

I also may be in the minority of people who don't think McDermott is a good HC. Hit lightning in a bottle with his son, never made it past the second round of the tourney, and flamed out at Iowa State despite recruiting well (i.e. Craig Brackins - 5 star).

he also had future NBAer Wesley Johnson at Iowa State as well as lots of other talented kids .. and yes he did great when he had Doug - but believe it or not he actually missed on his own kid when he was recruiting-
When Greg McDermott was the coach of Iowa State, his son Doug (not to make fun of anyone's name, because it's not like I have stones to throw, but I had no idea parents were still naming their kids Doug) wasn't planning on playing for his dad.
