Splitting hairs here but I believe the post on here said he was fired. Now we find out he quit. I know , I know ,we all know what that means but lets not let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I like Dr. Cross personally, and he has a tremendous family. I wish them well and hope he will land on his feet quickly, and I believe he will.
As I have said for a long time, I do not believe most of the problems in the athletic department at Bradley were entirely fault. In fact, IMO the fault lies mostly a notch higher. Dr. Cross was in the middle of a bad situation at Bradley, and probably could not have been successful unless he had more autonomy.

As I have reported here before, Dr. Cross actually wrote his recommendation for Jim Les back in 2011 and recommended he be given another year to continue coaching. He was overruled, and the fallout mostly all stems from what ensued.

the BU Scout found a student who said this...(name hidden) but he's entitled to his opinion...

"... junior health science major **** ********, who disagrees with the gloom-and-doom prognostications that can be found on various places, such as fan boards.

???I think he did an all right job, I think it??™s just time for a change,??? .... ???Things were going in the right direction, they??™re looking up from here.???

          Looking up??
          an all-right job?
Would love to know what his definition of a not-all-right job is, and I guess if yuo get this bad then anything is "looking up"

This student is ignorant of the past success of Bradley basketball. Also, at Div I programs, this is a business, not like at Div III programs. Geno is paid highly compensated compared to coaches at similar programs and the results have been dismal. This is the real world and this student will soon learn.

He's partly right ..... he said this- "they??™re looking up from here"

Yes, since Bradley basketball is the worst team in the league, they are "looking up" at the other schools in the MVC. Just like they have almost every year in women's basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc.

we've been looking up at the rest of the MVC since 2011
recall - as recently as 2009 & 2010, we were averaging almost 10,000 fans, winning 20 games per year, playing in the post-season, showing up at road games with 100+ fans traveling with the team, beating ISU regularly, knocking off Big East, Big Ten, & Big 12 teams, finishing in the top half of the MVC and landing multiple players who went on to All-Conference careers, 1000-point club scorers, and even one that finished well inside the TOP all time at Bradley despite being forced to play out of position for 3 years.

Our perennial trend to be "an anchor" in the MVC did NOT predate 2011.

Would there have been any fallout if JL's 2011-12 record did not put BU inside top 4 of MVC or win a Conference Tournament that season? Would JL followers have kept pushing for one more year for JL in 2012-13 if BU with JL had gotten back to 9-9 in 2011-12 from rock bottom in 2010-11? I could see it now, JL turned BU around in 2011-12 to 0.500 from 4-12, he deserves yet another season/chance..

How many more seasons would some folks want to keep JL at BU with more at 9-9 or 10-8 outside top 4 in MVC and no MVC Tournament Championships after 2010-11 but 20 'wins' and EIEIO post season Tournaments?

For everyone who speculate BU would for sure would have been much better in 2011-12... I can speculate with similar reasonableness it wouldn't. Too many seasons in a row JL promised change/improvement/all time great recruits/had all conference players, had record setting players, would promise better rebounding, better FT shooting, better defensive effort, better offensive execution in half court and better big men that never materialized as MVC success or NCAA/NIT Tournament after POB/ZA/JC JL era...

So Remy shows up as a frosh, tears it up in 2011-12 but BU doesn't go to NCAA's? Why wouldn't he bolt a la Granger for the big time then?

Fun to speculate and discuss and debate....we'll never know for sure.
All we know for sure now is BU needs to change (again)...

To me, it's not just about the record, or the personnel. It was about the quality of the person running the program, and all the other important factors like academics, donations, revenues, attendance, TV presence, not being afraid to schedule and play BCS opponents, and everything else that were part of a healthy and successful program just a few short years ago. That is all gone now. Even though 2010-11 was a bad year, I believe JL would have rebuilt and been very successful, like he's proving he is capable of at UCD.
The bottom line is that he was fired for one reason and everyone knows it....a personal dislike by the President. To his credit, Dr. Cross wanted to give Jim another year.

I heard some interesting news today as it affects our search for a new AD...
I will be careful giving names because that freaked people out before...
but quite possibly our next AD will have ties not just to a local Peoria high school but even connections to more than one and to a top University President out east (who is also an area native) who highly recommended him...

One more post, for the record-
I made a point to talk to as many season ticket holders as possible today, mostly in my section, but also several others that I talked to after the game.

I hope the Board of Trustees are reading this-

100% of them, about a dozen season-ticket holders in all, told me they absolutely would not be renewing their season tickets next year unless a coaching change was made. Plus some weren't sure they'd renew until after they saw who the new coach would be.
The Board must be decisive, act quickly, and hire someone who is a great recruiters, and an energetic young coach that can generate enthusiasm among the remaining loyal ticket buyers. If not, then the remaining season ticket buyers will shrink to negligible numbers.
