    Yes. Agree 100%.

And remember, the cost of replacing a coach who, for example, has 2 years left on his contract at $750,000 is not $1.5 million, since the school will end up paying that out either way.
The actual cost is how much added money you have to pay the new coach over that same period.

If that extra cost is less than the amount you are losing in tickets, maintenance, donations, and future damage, it is more than worth it. And I can assure you that the Board has looked at the numbers every possible way, and they now realize the damage done by waiting will be far greater.

The money owed to the head coach, if he is terminated is significant. However, seldom is that money shelled out in one lump sum. It is beneficial to both parties involved, that payments are deferred over a designated length of time. That helps both parties involved. We just witnessed what I'm talking about as we recently completed paying Les and he's been gone four years now. Sometimes you gotta spend money to save money.

I also believe whoever the athletic director is. If the Board of Trustees does not let the athletic director hire the next coach, whoever that athletic director is, that is a bad reflection on the Board of Trustees. If I was an athletic director and not allowed to hire the people working under me, I'd resign immediately. That is not the Board of Trustees duty.

        You are so correct.

This is the result of an unwise, perhaps even foolish decision to give a significant extension after a .500 season, when we were 7-11 in the MVC with a 200 RPI against a very weak schedule and benefiting largely from the players who were left in the cupboard and not those of the current coach's, and they must have thought money was growing on trees.
I guess they can spend their money as they so choose, but look at the price we're paying now for ignoring all the warning signs.

I've never understood the extension after that year

No question it is going to cost the university to payoff Ford, if he is terminated. But as I said, it will be with deferred payouts, and it won't cause the university to shut down or the sky to fall. We will all survive.

                How Will It Play Out?

Will be interesting to see if BU BOT goes:

with their replacement of the Prez (and possibly AD/MBB Coach)...

                OR

                BUilding for the Future

Somebody help me. Has anyone seen a link that said Reynolds did not select or approve of Howard? I don't remember seeing anything. This assumes that Reynolds was being offered the AD job.

Maybe this is off topic. If so I apologize. It reminds me so much about the Aesop fable of the fox and the grapes. Some Bradley fans are saying Howard is a poor recruiter. He has been hired by three of the better college coaches. In every job he had been the one to initiate a position at a new college. I wonder what these fans know that the three college coaches didn't.

You are right- the Chris Reynolds thing is not a done deal yet.
And Jerrance Howard is one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the country for his age and years of experience for a reason. He makes more than the head coach at about half of D1 schools.

I've not read anything that Reynolds has written regarding Howard or Reynolds being employed by BU in the future. He is too smart to write anything like that, especially when it could jeopardize the above mentioned people's current jobs and future jobs. That could lead to lawsuits. Some people may not like Reynolds, but for him to write articles about the future employment of Reynolds and Howard before there has been an official announcement regarding the termination of the people holding their assumed positions at BU, would be unprofessional and very damaging to BU and all parties involved.

Howard has been one of the most sought after assistant coaches in the country. His recent arrest in Peoria may have hampered that for a while, but I believe he is young enough to overcome it.

Vent you seem to have your head on straight regarding this whole mess that took place because someone MAY he leaked a sensitive firing and than some people made a bad decision by posting it on the boards without notification from BU. The majority of people that post on this board seems to dislike the PJ Star but as far as I'm concerned DR and KW have handled this situation like professionals as you've posted. I'm not saying there may not be firings in the future but lets let the media do it's job. That's when i'll believe it. Good post Vent.

I think the posting of a reported firing was pre-mature and in retrospect in bad taste (but I was interested and admittedly welcomed the news and was actively discussing it). But to say DR and KW have handled this situation professionally is a JOKE. DR tweeting thinly-veiled passive-aggressive attacks at this board when the PJ-Star sponsored board still had open reference to the same info?? KW incorrectly reporting on an event that happened half a year ago with a clear agenda but not mentioning it, on something he normally would never report, on THE FRONT PAGE, then a couple days later he quietly buried the reporting of a retraction/correction??

No one has been perfect, but how the heck is a fan run message board being held to a higher standard than professional journalists? I understand that DR and KW are ultimately good people, but their actions have been anything but forthright and are clearly motivated. There have been suspicions and accusations emanating from this board for some time, so this may just seem like more of the same. But to me, it has reached a point where the sports section of the newspaper can no longer be defended as being objective. They clearly have a prerogative and are working to advance that perspective (much like all on here are doing). The difference however, is that fans don't hide behind a veil 'objectivity' and 'protecting the public interest' that is only applied when they deem convenient. The PJStar team is no better than cable 'news' shows who clearly represent a particular party, and thusly have/should have lost respect from those who do see the charade for what it is.

Any time a minor misdemeanor is reported to protect the university, but not a near decade of mismanagement, overspending, and rampant disregard for alum and fan wishes, I refuse to accept that someone is being professional.

I wonder if they will quit winning awards now for their accomplishments because of all this.

What awards? I have seen a couple local, minor recognitions, but let me know the last time they won a recognizable achievement...
