  • Act Quickly

I guess the Board is fully free to do as they want, flub around, and just let things go from bad to worse...

and I know someone that is a big wig must read here continuously because they sure got up in arms instantly over something on the board a couple nights ago...

but just a little open letter to those in charge to get something done...
ACT QUICKLY - I have met three different people just this morning who have told me they are fed up and sick of all the crap and not renewing next year!
Stop fiddling while Rome burns - more than half the fan base has exited the building and simply does not care any more and it gets worse every day.

Honestly - you should care more than me cuz it doesn't make getting tickets any harder and the lines are shorter to buy Dippin Dots

I am concerned that a lack of action will hamper recruiting efforts for at least two years. If the freshmen do not come back next year, the talent level on this team is worse than when Les left and it may be anyway.

I think that the board has been working on this quite some time and should be ready to act. Of course, it would be tampering to talk to coaches before the season is over but that dooms recruiting unless an assistant or two is retained.

The ship has already sunk. We're at the bottom of the MVC ocean right now and can't go any lower. Let's wait and see first if the athletic director and head basketball coach is terminated. If and when they are I'd rather see us get the right athletic director and take our time and get the right coach. The athletic director needs to be hired first and also is entitled to his opinion on who the next basketball coach should be. After all, they are working together. The last thing we need to do is make a knee jerk decision and grab the first guy that comes along. In addition, we do not need to have the reputation of a university that tampers with other schools' coaches without permission of their school. We also do not need the reputation of going out and contacting potential coaches, until an official announcement, if any, has been made regarding the termination of our basketball coach. It's just not ethical and not many good things can come out of it.

Do I think we need a change in athletic director? Yes. Do I think we need a change in the head basketball coach? Yes. But please for God's sake, the people involved in making the decision need to act professionally and ethically. They aren't ordering hamburgers at a drive-thru restaurant. People are acting as if, if we don't act within the next 24 hours our program is doomed for life. There will be a lot of head coaches and assistant coaches looking for jobs in about three weeks.

The Board of Trustees first must determine who from the Board of Trustees, leaked information, if information was leaked, and remove that person from the process. That person has violated the trust of fellow board members. When trust is gone, everything is gone. The program is in the gutter, and waiting three or four weeks to hire a new athletic director and coach, is not going to have that negative of an effect on recruiting. I would rather have a good process used and restore some integrity back to the university.

The more important hire is the AD. The morale in the athletic department is at an all time low. A lot of people feel like they are walking on egg shells. If Chris Reynolds is the man to hire get it done now and then proceed to getting your head b-ball coach in place soon after that.

but this was & has been the endless, overwhelming mantra since the last time around -
so we took our time, interviewed dozens, hired the search firm, spend zillions, put everyone from the Prez on down on jets to go find candidates, and our AD "took notes" to help get the right guy, we upped the offer to 3/4 of a million, and we had vastly improved facilities, gushing press, etc, etc...and we still ended up with a garage full of Yugos.

Then we had to listen for 3.5 years to the "experts" telling us endlessly (even tho the fans saw all the losing and personnel issues) how we ARE DOING IT RIGHT this time around!
That we should just shut up and be happy, get "educated", and buy more lower bowl tickets and not the cheap upper bowl ones. Be happy with the inferior, last place product we were seeing - and happy that by downgrading the schedule we were able to jack a few more wins so we tout how improved we are and give everyone a raise & extension.

Nope - we need more than just a bunch of cheerleaders to keep saying "get it right"
We need to clean out the people who have got it wrong then who stuck with wrong thru endless excuses and alibis until the program was on life support.

So we need one big step even before we try once again to "get it right".
We need a complete change of guard of the people who do the getting -
and if not, then the old saying kicks in that if we just keep doing the same thing, how do we expect different results -
The fans are not as stupid or "UNEDUCATED" as they tell us we are.
If you just do the math on home attendance figures - you will see that each year since 2011, 1000-2000 of those "uneducated" fans have given themselves a $1000-$2000 raise by not re-upping their jacked-up ticket prices and paying the maintenence. The result- crowds under 5000, down from the 9000 that were in the cupboard.

BTW - I do not want anyone to act recklessly or choose unwisely...
I just want to make the needed changes quicker than what some have proposed...
leaving everyone in place 'til May, the getting a new President "hopefully" by the fall term, then just maybe waiting until after that to make the other needed changes.
That timetable dam-ns us to another bad year with even worse fan disinterest and attendance losses again next year.

The people that the pressure is on most is the Board of Trustees. First and foremost they have to find out where the leak is, if there has been one. The leak could get BU in problems with the NCAA for tampering and it could also lead to legal problems for the person and/or the administration. The proper chain of events must happen if there is a change. A public announcement must happen and then the search and contacting of people should occur. Most schools interview during the NCAA Final Four, to hire there new basketball coaches. One thing that does not need to happen, if a new coach is hired, is for the new hire to be determined by people making large financial donations to the university. If they want to donate money to the cause that is great. However, the decision should be based by the university and/or any committee it may form.

Once again, this needs to be done professionally and in a timely and orderly fashion, in the event it is going to happen. The university's reputation and credibility is on the line. I do not want BU to become known as a school that sneaks behind employees' backs, to hire people in their place.

Nice post Vent??¦..the only thing I would add is the AD should be responsible for hiring the HC??¦.now he may want to get opinions from others but ultimately the decision should be his alone on the hire??¦..he or she may have some guidelines regarding the contract but the person should be selected by the AD IMO

I agree. The AD should then be responsible for hiring the HC. The HC should be allowed to hire his own assistants. Otherwise we are getting into the same position that Glasser created.

I think Vent, Lefty and you are on the right trail. I'm in total agreement with you 3 the Board should not hire the next Coach if there is one. Oh and I might add, neither should the next Pres. That is 100% the job of the AD. As of right now we still have an AD and if that remains the same for an extended period of time . Geno's job is safe. The Board will not hire a Coach and I would hope they wouldn't allow MC to hire one either. We've seen how that worked out. So in summary as long as we have MC as our AD I think we can expect no changes in our Head Coach. I could be wrong here but that makes the most sense to me. For those of you wanting Geno gone I wouldn't get my hopes up until there is a change in the AD office. There is time but like a shot clock it's running down.

As anxious as i am to see us have a new AD and coach---(and I also wish we could "act quickly" and correctly)--I think the shot clock will expire too. As others have said--the $$ we owe Geno is a huge obstacle that is looming over acting quickly--plus--I agree the (hopefully new) AD should be the one to bring in a new coach. I would likewise assume the new Pres. should be instrumental in hiring a new AD--and by the time we get there---the shot clock will have to be re-set to one more year
                          Bradley football--undefeated again this year

+1 Agree 100% and we haven't mentioned Dollars but could be a big reason he stays one more year.

The problem with waiting one more year is that at least 1500-2000 of the present season ticket holders will not renew and it is one more year later before any rebuilding starts. It makes it even harder to renew interest in this program.
