ok then - what was the last story that had nothing to do with Bradley or an upcoming BU opponent that has a Kirk Wessler by-line? It was 6 months ago and it was a Wayne McClain eulogy piece...

so if a message board poster believes "that I for one think it is important it is in print" to post about other message board patrons' DUI's or name the PJS sports writers who have had multiple drug arrests - then it's ok and hunky dory to go right ahead and do it?
Pretty chaotic logic there.
btw - nobody has yet bothered to even check any facts about Jerrance's arrest.
It was a Class 2 misdemeanor - a really low level...did not test positive for anything, wasn't under the influence, wasn't dealing, was offered a soft sentence - just probation
..maybe it was just a case of getting caught with someone else's weed in his car - maybe protecting someone else, a family member, a kid, a recruit??
Do we know? I guess we just judge and write a hit piece on the guy, right?
He lives & works out of state and prob just agreed to the terms as an expedient way of getting this behind him.

In my opinion ,most not all of these post lack a lot of validity. I can not say why Kirk chose to write about the Howard situation but I for one think it was important for it to be in print. What JH did was against the law that's why they call it an arrest. Until weed becomes legal in this state ,people will still be arrested when in possession. The Kirk I know is a die hard BU fan and a proud graduate of Peo. High. Do I think he did this to hurt Jerrance's chances of becoming the next Coach on the Hilltop? Maybe, maybe not, I don't know but it does level the playing field in that all involved parties will not be blindsided later on in the process. I have no knowledge of why Jerrance waited until Wed. to tell Coach Self but if I was to guess it probably was because Kirk or someone from the Star told JH the story was coming out in todays paper. Will this hurt Jerrances chances with the committee ,don't know but I have a feeling we will find out later.

Having been a person in the media back in the day this is a kind of a story that doesn't surprise me in the least. Anything revolving around BU basketball is big news whether it's about a former or current player or even a former Peorian who might be up for a head coaching job that's not even available yet. It still concerns me that JH didn't say anything to his boss about this until Wednesday. It's a question he's going to have to answer to whoever might be his next prospective employer. Once he does become a head coach somewhere it'll be an issue he'll have to discuss with potential recruits and their parents for a little while. It won't surprise me if he uses this situation as a teaching tool. I am curious to see how much this is talked about during the Kansas/Baylor game on Saturday.

Wessler was just on a morning talk radio show in Peoria and answered some questions about this- he admits the PJ Star was lax in not uncovering this back in July, 2014 when it happened. They have people who search the arrest records daily to find these kinds of things.
He claims it is news involving a prominent Peorian, so it would have been published whenever they found out.
But he admits he knew nothing about this until someone emailed him Wednesday about noon and told him about it and directed him to the Peoria County arrest database, which he did to confirm it. Kirk refused to divulge who emailed him citing the privilege of newspaper people to protect their sources, but he did seem to admit that the person who emailed him was doing it for the ulterior motive of wanting to damage Jerrance Howard's reputation at a key time when he may have been considered for a coaching job at Bradley.
What Kirk didn't say is why he himself rushed to write and publish the story when they have reporters on staff who usually do the reporting, something Kirk does not usually do. Or why they treated it as a major breaking news story when it was 7-month old news, and would normally be handled as a minor story, not on the front page.
