Did ever coach against Bradley? I know he played for Kansas too. Did he play against Bradley?Last edited by BUBraves04; 02-09-2015, 12:33 PM.

Joe Stowell coached Bradley against Dean Smith's North Carolina team featuring All American Bob McAdoo one time in the 1971-72 season. It was in the 1971 Sugar Bowl tournament in New Orleans. Bradley advanced to the championship game with an upset 84-72 win over Purdue, and then met Dean Smith's #4 ranked UNC team on December 30, 1971. UNC had clobbered St. Joseph's 93-77 to advance to the championship game.
Bradley played Smith's UNC team surprisingly tough, but lost by the score of 75-69. Despite the fact that the MVP award for the tournament had virtually always gone to a member of the championship team, Bradley's Rich Schultz (from Springfield) was named the MVP. I think he scored 30 points in the championship game.
Bradley's Sam Simmons also made the All-Tournament team in addition to Rich Schultz.

A high-point of the Brave's
1971-72 basketball season was
participation in the Sugar Bowl
Mid-Winter Classics. Bradley

losing only to top-ranked North
Carolina (75-69).
Rich Schultz was voted most
valuable player of the tourna-

recognition through Collette

resent Illinois during the Sugar
Bowl parade and other func-
tions of the week.
