I sure hope Josh is going to be OK - there is a particular phase of asthma that is referred to as "exercise induced asthma" - and can hit a guy suddenly, unexpectedly, and has even been known to come out of the blue...
it's a condition many athletes have but if they've been diagnosed and properly treated - many will be just fine & be able to compete.
But it's not even certain if that's what this is - perhaps it was just the sudden, spontaneous appearance of an asthma attack during halftime.
There actually are a few reports of this same thing happening to Josh in high school

"Cunningham, the team’s leading returning scorer and rebounder, is out for two weeks after he suffered a severe asthma attack"
Top level swimmers are often troubled with asthma due to the cold air they breathe that has pool chemicals in it
