Fun day to get our token road win for the season. Maybe we can get a 2nd? Have always been a Wells fan because of his attitude and potential. Can't help but wonder where we/he would have been with some attention to his development. Go Braves.Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Yes, Mason Alwan hit 2 big shots (went 2-2) off the bench against Indiana State.
Then next game in extremely limited playing time he went 1-1 and grabbed a couple rebounds.
So the next game vs. SIU he got a little more opportunity and was the best player on the floor - 4-6 & 3-4 from the arc, 12 pts.
He never got much chance after that and not sure why but I was convinced he earned more time and would have helped us.
Then Jordan Swopshire came off the bench to nail four treys against Pacific, then awarded the STARTING SPOT in the next game..and didn't do that bad for a frosh. Sadly he misbehaved in practice and his playing time shrunk to just 1-2 minutes the rest of the season and Geno used Alwan instead.
but in both cases the evidence was there the kid deserved more PT and when given it - they responded with good games.
BTW - Dave Reynolds did his best to tip Evansville off to our strategy - good thing Marty didn't pick up on it.

Hey Lefty, we pulled out a road win and Nate was the hero. Give him a break, he doesn't get much playing time but took advantage of it today. Cunningham was healthy the 2nd half, he probably would have stayed on the bench. Sure, he didn't score in the 30's, but he didn't make the police blotter either. What part of illegal don't you understand?

This was a game that we had the following happen:
Leading scorer, Jones, suspended
Most talented player, Josh, doesn't play the 2nd half due to an asthma attack
Best overall player, Barnes was 2-9 from the field, 0-6 from 3, and had a broken nose
Our 1st 3 centers were 0-1 from the field with 2 rebounds and 4 fouls
Let Evansville score the 1st 12 points of the game
Have 12 turnovers in the 1st half
Our 7 foot deep reserve player who was averaging about 3 minutes a game for his career and had never attempted a 3 in his career plays a career high 16 minutes and scored a career high 8 points including 2-3 from 3
Some games just defy explanation.

...yes, three more injury/illness problems today --
Auston Barnes reportedly broke his nose, Ka'Darryl Bell sprained his ankle and played through it, and Josh Cunningham missed the entire 2nd half due to an asthma attack.
Get well guys - still got a chance to catch ISU!!!

I just think heaping accolades on a kid for one good game like "dinners for life" and our season would have bee different if he played all year is a little much??¦that's all. Seems to be an overreaction to me??¦??¦.

I would have liked to seen Swop for another year myself too just to see how it would have gone

he's added a bright spot and given some fans a bit of optimism...
How about a lineup of
7-1 Nate
6-8 Josh
6-8 Barnes
6-4 Grier
6-3 Jones
then Tramique & Bell off the bench...
..we'd be the tallest team in the MVC and we'd have all our best scorers on the floor ..
the minutes Morgan, Shaw, Taylor get (almost 1/4 of our minutes) should go to someone that is producing - but if we still need depth in the post we have it..

With Nate, my belief all season has been that he should at least play equal minutes with the 3 soft batch cookies who log our post minutes. My point has been that he is obviously not a very good player, but is likely every bit as good as the other 3...and he works harder...and my perception is that he is a better teammate...and he is 7'1". With everything else being equal, I would rather play a 7'1" stiff than a 6'7" stiff. A taller player is not necessarily a better rebounder. We all know this. A taller player is not necessarily a better finisher. We all know this. My point that I tried to share regarding height is that I would imagine that height relates most to blocking shots/ changing shots. Exceptions are definitely there with 6'5" kids with huge wingspans and verticals, etc. However, I would guess that most shot blockers/ shot changers are relatively "tall." If Nate plays 20 minutes per game, I am confident that he can at least provide the 2.8 PPG from our "CAPTAIN" Shaw, 41% FT% from Shaw, 33% FG% from Morgan, 3.1 RPG from Morgan, 4 fouls per game from Taylor, and 3:19 assist:turnover ratio from Taylor. Any argument against Wells because he moves slower and is less athletic, and cannot run the floor as well would be ridiculous. Watch the other 3 bigs and understand that we have not had anything resembling a transition offense or defense in quite some time. If I was a desperate coach looking for anything positive or any kind of change, I would have played Wells a few minutes awhile ago just to mix things up but I guess I don't know as much about basketball as Geno because I never outscored Lebron in HS. At this pace, Geno will catch coach K in about 120 more years on the Hilltop. Why don't we give him a free pass and extend him because of all the challenges due to injury, illness, and suspensions.
