Creighton had only 17 pts at halftime - now trails Georgetown 38-17
Creighton, supposedly a great 3-pt shooting team, is just 3-19 from downtown but they keep chucking
They will fall to 1-9 in the Big East and their season 3-pt shooting pct will fall to about 32% (and only 30% in Big East play)
..to put that in perspective - they have attempted almost 200 more 3-pt shots this season than the average of the other nine Big East teams.
Is that good coaching when you take such a huge chunk of your shots from where you do not make them very well?

Not just their 3 point shooting or the coaching, which was always good enough for the MVC. They should have stayed in the Valley. Got in over their head because the Big East is twice, if not more, as tough as the MVC is now.

Illinois State lead most of the game at Loyola, who was without their 2 leading scorers- Milton Doyle, Christian Thomas who was out with a concussion much of the game. However, Loyola came back and was within 1 basket the last minute, but missed a bunch of free throws and fell short.

Final Georgetown 67 - Creighton 40 - Creighton only had 18 points until the final 13 minutes of this game!!!
The only way they finished with 40 was Georgetown took their foot off the gas when they got up nearly 25.

..and Creighton even has a good team this year - they went 9-4 and were getting ranked in the Top 25 in the pre-conference season...
but now are 1-9...what's gonna happen if they actually have a down year...
actually 5 of their top 6-7 players (Chatman, Brooks, Artino, Kreklow, Dingman) are seniors - so they might be really hurting next year

ISU scores just 48 but does barely edge Loyola who was missing their two best players!

Wichita going to need a big comeback down 49-30 with 13 left. Seth Tuttle of UNI made the 1st 8 points of the 2nd half. As I'm writing this Wichita has run off 5 points in the last minute.

Northern Iowa just guaranteed two teams from the Valley in the NCAA Tournament today, unless the wheels fall off between now and the end of the season for either team.

ISU goes on the road, plays bad and still wins against a week team. I consider Drake beating Evansville in Des Moines, a mild upset. If Drake shoots the 3, they can play with most teams in the Valley, as the league is really weak.

Wichita gets totally schooled by a very good Northern Iowa team...70-54
it was very fun to watch and I think it signals that other teams can beat Wichita as well....
UNI zoned them and they are not necessarily a good 3-pt team - we chose NOT to zone them- BIG MISTAKE
.. and their big men ate us alive down low as our deep batch of post players were like a sieve.

not many people outside the Valley saw this coming...UNI did not get ONE SINGLE VOTE in the Top 25 rankings until well into the season

BTW - Seth Tuttle averaged 9 ppg/5 rpg as a freshman, he had a great game today and in all likelihood could be the MVC Player of the Year
Josh Cunningham is averaging 8 ppg/8 rpg right now - and has a much higher upside than Tuttle ever had..

But it is all in what happens over the next couple years - we need to get somebody that can coach Josh and keep him on track to being the next MVC superstar..

BTW - Drake is on a hot streak - they beat Evansville.

UNI wins it 70-54. Seth Tuttle moves to the top of the POY in the MVC with his career high 29 point performance. By far and away the best game anyone has played against the Shockers this season. It really was the perfect storm as the Panthers shot 60% from the field, were 5 of 7 from 3 and committed only 10 turnovers while the Shockers shot 35 % from the field and were just 5 for 24 from 3. UNI was only the 2nd team to shoot better than 50% in a game against Wichita. For as good a team that Wichita is they sure do go in stretches where they don't score like a 4 1/2 minute stretch near the end of the 1st half where UNI went on a 11-0 run, helping get them a 37-24 lead. In the 2nd half they went over 9 minutes without making a FG. Wes Washpun added 16 for UNI while Fred Van Fleet had 18 for the Shockers. UNI next plays at ISU Blue while Wichita travels to P-Town to play you know who. These two teams don't meet again until their last game of the Valley season on February 28.

Just a reminder for everyone. There is a 3 game gap between 5th and 6th. Loyola, Drake and the winner of SIU/MSU will all have 3 wins in the Valley with BU and the loser of SIU/MSU having just 2. I still say whoever of those teams that can get to 6 wins in the Valley will finish 6th.
