  • Brian Gregory

Many people thought Bradley should have hired Brian Gregory back in 2002. He was an assistant at Michigan State at that time and became one of the 10 finalists selected by the search committee. He returned to Bradley for a second round of interviews. He might have been a good choice, but he voluntarily withdrew for personal reasons after the interview on campus.

A year later (2003) he became the head coach at Dayton. He spent 8 seasons at Dayton with some success, but only 1 NCAA season. Dayton fans were never happy with him, and many were glad when he left in 2011 to take the head coaching job at Georgia Tech.

For the last 4 seasons he has been the head coach at Georgia Tech, where he has had some tough times. In 3 1/2 seasons at Georgia Tech, he is 52-62 overall, but just 16-43 in the ACC. This season he has bottomed out and is currently 0-7 and in dead last place in the ACC. And he still has games coming against North Carolina twice, Duke, Miami, NC State, Louisville, and several other better teams.

One of the low points this season was Dec. 23, when Gregory's Georgia Tech team was clobbered by his former team Dayton, now a national power coached by Archie Miller.

So in his 4th season at Georgia Tech, their fans are not happy and are demanding he be fired.

His team hit a new low last week when they lost 57-28 against Virginia. Yes, just 28 points in a 40 minute game

He is criticized for running a "high school offense"-
Brian Gregory is a great guy. However the way his teams have looked and the lack of improvement are making Gregory look out of his league in the ACC.

So there is a good chance he will be looking for a new job at the end of this season.... is anyone at Bradley still interested?

funny - based on what I have read - he is still the object of worship by some Bradley fans who think he'd have done great here

the other semifinalist for the BU job back in 2002, was Yale's James Jones, who independent of having zero midwest connections - in the intervening 14 seasons since then
has never won his conference, is 171-222, and has never gone to either the NCAA Tourney nor even the NIT...
If he had that kind of record here, he'd have been vilified far worse than Geno's getting.

According to wiki Gregory spent 8 seasons at Dayton.

      He made 2 NCAA tournaments

He made 3 NITs and won the NIT championship once.

I would call his time at Dayton pretty successful.

He has been a nightmare and Georgia tech.

I would not be overly excited if he were the next Bradley coach but I would be ok with it. I'm sure he would do a solid job and get us back to being competitive.

Gregory might have had some success here --
but it would have been a replay of what happened with Jank at ISU...

a couple seasons of scheduling extremely weak just to build a resume then poof - gone to other greener pastures...

You are correct- he made the NCAA twice- his first season with players he inherited from Oliver Purnell's 24-6 team (lost in 1st round), and he did not make it again until his 7th season (lost in 2nd round). The prevailing opinions on the Dayton fan boards was that they were ecstatic to see him go.

For the record, I did say he had some success at Dayton (1 NCAA in his last 7 seasons was not satisfactory for many UD fans).
I also feel his failure at GA Tech hurts his resume severely, and I do not see any chance Bradley would pursue him if he becomes available.
