Illinois State had a lead most of the 2nd half, and appeared headed for victory over UNI, but they folded down the stretch and UNI wins 54-53-
-
wow - that 74-40 WSU-Drake score is reminiscent of this game, the 73-39, 34 pt blowout loss we suffered there in 2013- LINK
a couple other game results...
Butler just clobbered #24 ranked Seton Hall 77-57 -- this is their FOURTH win over a ranked opponent
How come Butler is not ranked??? Still getting hit with midmajor bias??
Meanwhile, Creighton got killed again - Villanova 71 - Creighton 50 (only 14 1st half points!)- they fall to 0-8 in their new league!!
Wonder if this goes on year after year whether they'll some day come begging to get back in the Valley?
For a team that was so highly touted as a GREAT 3-pt shooting team - today they shot just 19% and on the season, shooting as bad as we are (33%)

Plus there is more bad news for Creighton. By far their best 3-point shooter, best FT shooter, and 2nd leading scorer Isaiah Zierden just suffered a season-ending knee injury
But then injuries shouldn't be any excuse...

ah ha...there is a little more news to this enormous clobbering of Drake by Wichita State...
the beat writer for the Shockers says this...(remember this comment?)
First he kinda insults Bradley...
"..playing Wichita State is something you go through, like a root canal. In a
week, after you’ve played someone like Bradley or Drake, you feel better."
Then he talks about the Drake coach's comment that Gregg Marshall used to
motivate his troops to the huge blowout...
"..(Marshall)...willing to use a comment made by Drake coach Ray Giacoletti
after an 81-45 loss at Illinois State on Jan. 7 and turn it into World War III
for his players.
“Dan’s team played with great energy,” Giacoletti said of the Redbirds and
coach Dan Muller after that one-sided loss, according to the Bloomington
(Ill.) Pantagraph. “They’re missing three really good players, but I think
they’re more talented than Wichita State at each position 1 through 12.”
Some coaches might let something like that go. Marshall cooked it up, added
spice and fed it to his ravenous team of guard dogs."
then the rest of his column he kinda gratuously rips the rest of the MVC...
"There’s a mixture of panic and apathy in Peoria because of how badly things are going for Bradley.
If the wheels haven’t come off at Missouri State, they’re certainly wobbling. Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson
is paddling upstream. Loyola is falling to earth after a promising start. .....
And Drake is a mess.
Wichita State, meanwhile, has become a national program while most of the Valley is just trying to get people next door interested."
sounds to me like a coach and a writer who figures they won't be in the MVC much longer....so it doesn't matter who you offend..

The writer has worked for that paper since 1974 so unless he's retiring he's going no where. Frankly what he said is very true. The Valley team that finally beats Wichita is going to have to shoot over 50% and have less than 10 turnovers. What makes the Shockers so tough is if they struggle on offense they just seem to pick it up on the defensive end. Wichita goes to UNI on Saturday in an ESPN 2 game at 3PM. Might be the best chance anyone in the Valley has to beat them. Good luck.

The writer and the coach are both telling it like it is.Wichita is head and shoulders above most, if not all, in the conference. Wouldn't blame them at all if they moved. They have built a program while the rest of the league seemed not to care. How can adding Loyola make you a stronger league? What part of illegal don't you understand?
