  • <Unfortunately, that section has a lot of kids in it....>

My great-nephew and great-niece sit in that section. This deserves more than just words in response.

To protest the Barnes swearing and the Jones arrest, I propose this action.

Please, parents -- for one game, the next game -- do NOT send your children down to courtside for the traditional slapping of hands at the player introduction. First, I think it would be hypocritical for the players to go through the ritual, since some obviously do not care about the young fans who remain. Moreso, it would send a clear message to the players and staff about our base expectations for player behavior.

If you agree, let's spread this idea around. I fully realize that not all on our team are in this category, but a message needs to be sent that the coaching staff seems incapable of delivering.
    Yajusneverno!

    • I have always been a fan of giving kids 2nd chances - but with all the issues & arrests already - we should by now be at the ZERO-TOLERANCE level...
the guys who violated that last night ought to be gone - and lose their scholarships. Sorry - might be harsh but if they haven't figured it out by now that their time here is a gift and they need to behave - then what will the headlines bring tomorrow?

In just his first 3 years Geno had more than double the player issues and more player suspensions than JL did in his entire tenure...
but now Geno's tally must be approaching the entire total of every coach since Squeaky...

but then the clueless always argued once Geno got all his own players, this wouldn't happen

Is it possible that we can run him off a couple of screens to get him an open shot? We do it for other guys. Why not Jones. Josh continues to evolve. Let's hope the evolution continues in Peoria. Geno needs to play X a lot more than he has. The only way X is going to get better is to play. I think X has some talent but how are you going to get it out of him if he only plays a couple of minutes a time. The problem for Geno has been getting all 5 guys that are out on the floor playing together on both ends of the court. He's hasn't proven that he has the ability to do that. the countdown clock for Geno is at 10.
Think Jones is through creating anything. He created trouble for himself last night.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

        • Apparently Jones doesn't like getting screened either.

Bringing Squeaky's name into it is a cheap shot. He's not here to defend himself. He may have made a mistake, as many others did in that era. He's paid his price and is still the only BU player to be taken as the #1 pick in the NBA draft. He has also been forgiven by his former high school by having his number retired. He also has given several hours and money to his community to make it better with asking nothing in return, so to throw his name into the fray with kids being arrested at Big Al's, seven or eight decades later, is really weak, and not fair to Sqeaky or his family.

              • Bradley is not as poverty-stricken as some reports would suggest.

                • I know. The money is there to buy Geno out. The question is...when will the Board of Trustees pull the trigger. I believe the decision has been made but will not be announced until we are eliminated on Thursday at the Valley tournament. The only way it would be announce earlier is if Geno makes a statement that he is pursuing other interests. The university knows it cannot go through another year like this.

I have been attending games regularly since my freshman year 1967. I have been a season ticket buyer since the mid-'70s. I have traveled to more road games over the last 30+ years than anyone not employed by Bradley. I have seen well over 1000 Bradley games in person. Bradley teams haven't always good, or loaded with talent. But they always competed hard, and usually overachieved. Until this season. And tonight was an all-time low point.

I have never seen a more embarrassing, listless, give-a-sh*t performance by any Bradley team in 47 seasons. I do not believe these players care and I no longer believe Geno or any of our highly experienced and knowledgeable assistants care any more. The only thing I can say is goodbye, and good riddance.

I listened to Geno's post-game show for any hint of an explanation for this disaster. He did admit there were several players who he felt did not play hard. No kidding. He said he is not the type of coach to single players out by name, but he said he benched those players and played guys who played hard- that is why in the final couple minutes when we might have still had a faint chance, we had guys like Fields on the floor, making sure we had no chance to come back. Grier, Shaw, Morgan, Taylor, and Sutherland were all on the bench. So Geno need not name those players not giving effort, we know who he thinks they were.
He blamed the loss on our poor peripheral and interior defense, and the fact Drake was hot and we couldn't stop them.
He stated clearly we would see "massive changes in the lineup" next game- which means we'll see Fields, Wells, Cunningham, Jones, and Barnes likely, since those were the players on the floor the final couple minutes. That might send a message, but it pretty much guarantees we will lose at Indiana State.

So in summary- this is the lowest point in the history of Bradley basketball in my lifetime. It was forseen and predicted. It was easily avoidable if those in charge had even an iota of sense or knowledge of what they were doing. Thank you Joanne, Mr. Shaheen, Mike, and Geno for destroying Bradley basketball.

PS- Geno said Thomas did something they did not like. It was nothing illegal, but Geno felt it deserved a suspension to make an example of him.
Sad to hear of what this has come to for such a loyal supporter of BU basketball...thanks for all your work on this board DC.
We all need to find an outlet to get our minds off of this mess unless any of us has anything to do for the betterment of the program.
Very sad state we are in...never thought I'd be wishing for Les to come back, but I sincerely do.

I am one of those fans who always will keep coming and will continue to be a season ticket holder for years to come - but plenty of those thousands of departed Bradley fans can be persuaded to come back and fill the arena - but not at the pace we are currently circling the drain and gathering negative coverage nationwide...
Something has to change fast - and all most fans see is that one person is retiring four months in the future...with no real promise that anything's gonna change since the same people (the current Board of Trustees) that steered us to the brink - are also the ones now engineering the next round of changes.
