How do you warrant giving a guy an extension with a 500 record.......sorry 1 win over 500?

From the Journal Star Opinion article.....

Our View: A farewell to Joanne Glasser...

Bradley University President Joanne Glasser has decided to make this year her last atop the Hilltop. She will leave at semester’s end, having been a consequential leader. Glasser was the 10th presi…

I guess the AD was worried other schools would line up to try to hire away a coach who never even won in the Thursday play-in round.

I never understood that either??¦??¦.I don't know why you would give a guy an extension after the 2nd year unless they did something really special

A couple thoughts after reading Kirk's atypical column:

Nice to see Kirk Wessler actually say-
"The program is in the dumper, and there’s no reason to care about this season — or future seasons — until substantive changes are made."

This is the very first time he has even hinted at this, although he still suggests that is the fans' opinion, not his. However, he continues to refuse to place the blame where it obviously belongs and where everyone who cares about the program knows it belongs- horrendous coaching and horrendous talent evaluation and recruiting, and the administration that has created this all-time worst state of Bradley basketball.
Again, he had no hesitation in blaming the last coach, why is it sooo hard for him to admit it now? Kirk isn't stupid. He's like an addict who won't admit he has a problem when everyone else knows it. But is nice to see him finally starting to show some insight to the problem and start to agree with those who have posted those things here for a long time.

It is interesting that this is the first time Kirk writes a word about how horrible things are and that "Bradley fans’ attitude" is that changes need to be made, when everyone else has known it for at least 2 years. It just happens to occur immediately after the resignation announcement by Joanne Glasser. That is not a coincidence. His function as a cavalier servente is coming to an end, so now it no longer matters who he offends.

And why does it take such an astute writer like Kirk 3 1/2 years to notice that "ticket sales and donations continue to fall" , and "the actual crowd was probably about half of the 6,059 announced paid". OMG, this is nothing new! It has been happening for the last 3 1/2 years and he just now notices and writes about it for the first time?
I am as much in favor of a "clean sweep" as anyone and am willing to support it, but it should have been done long ago. By now, Bradley has lost so many good fans, and loyal donors, that it will be impossible to ever get back to those days of "record setting" donations, revenues, and attendances.

And nice that Kirk has finally caught wind that "you would have to be an ldiot to believe Glasser’s retirement was all her choice", and that "A core group of Bradley supporters has a plan to make a clean sweep of Glasser, Cross and Ford in the coming weeks. The group has the ear of key members of the university Board of Trustees, who will meet Feb. 5-6."
He could have learned all that just by reading Bradleyfans.com. It was all posted here weeks ago.

More ad hominum attacks? So again, his columns should be off limits?
What exactly did you learn from his column that you didn't already know from reading this board?

I think that kind of management decision making symbolizes why she needed to go. You don't make that kind of decision until the person proves themselves...It shows she really did not care how the basketball team did or any of the other sports teams

I thought Wessler's article was right on target. I also think he knew the problems confronting BU, with or without reading this message board. He has done and is doing exactly what people in his position do, and do very well. That is getting people fired up to react to articles written, that gets people talking about it and buying newspapers. Now people will not be able to wait for him to write the next article. What he does is similar to what Rush Limbaugh, Chris Mathews, Glen Beck and Rachel Maddow do. There job is to create interest and fury and they do it well.

The fact of the matter is this. It was a good article. Was it late in coming? Probably, but it doesn't change anything other people than people like myself being able to say "I told you so". I also do not believe that what Kirk Wessler writes has any authority as to what what the Board of Trustees does. If it does they would have restored swimming and tennis to the athletic program, after they dropped it. If the BOT acts upon what Kirk Wessler writes, God help us with the next president, athletic director and basketball coach. They are giving him way too much credit if they do.

                        ...
But all those people fire people up by expressing their opinions.
Nowhere in Kirk's column does he express his own opinion. All he does is reiterate fans' opinions, which is nothing new. We've known what the fans' opinions are for years. I believe that was a cowardly way of putting this out there, and making it look like he is finally accepting reality, but still leave Kirk with the plausible deniability he needs to kiss up to the BU administration or what's left of it.

I think you are close...but I actually think she did care about the basketball program and really did want a winning, successful program for her legacy. However, she involved herself way too much, and made horrible, damaging decisions, and wasted millions of Bradley's money because of her ineptitude.

You're right, he didn't express his opinion. But it still worked.

Her presidency is a classic example as to why athletic people need to make athletic decisions, academic people need to make academic decisions and financial people need to make financial decisions.

I agree. That is why Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner clashed all the time and why Mike Ditka made the owners of the Bears promise he made all the decisions before he took the job

The only reason he wrote that is because Glasser is gone. He would never cross her.
