  • News from Renaissance Coliseum - good & bad

Basketball & brawls..... good news & bad news....

First - there were several good high school basketball games at the River City Shootout in Renaissance Coliseum on Monday...

Manual (13-3) edged Central (11-5) 52-42, BU recruit DaMonte Williams had 11

Richwoods 48 - Metamora 44, Metamora's Nate Kennell had 28 in their loss

Notre Dame lost to East Moline 41-28, Pete Hanley had 10 for PND

Then- here's a feature story from Lonnie Schwindenhammer on Da'Monte Williams (averaging 12 ppg, 4.5 rpg as a soph)

Then the really sad & bad news.... multiple fights broke out in the atrium of the Renaissance Coliseum & outside - with both Peoria police & Bradley campus police having to respond.

From a small PJS paragraph in the police section...

"Peoria, Bradley police respond to fight reports"

Peoria - Peoria and Bradley University police responded to reports of fights Monday night at Renaissance Coliseum after a high school basketball game.

..people leaving the coliseum between 9 and 9:45p.m. said multiple fights broke out in the lobby and outside the coliseum.
Several fans said fights in the atrium between high school students caused a crowd to stampede out of the building.

Numerous police cars from the Peoria and Bradley departments blocked off Main Street..."

...so why weren't the police there to begin with? With a big gathering on campus of various off-campus rival high school students - they didn't think it was
a big enough reason to have a few police there for security? It took "multiple fights" both inside & outside to warrant any action by police? Not good for business...

Bradley or whoever sponsored the shootout, probably didn't want to pay for the police protection.

Bull----. Blame the kids not the police. That's way it is now days though. Of course if a kid get hurt getting arrested they have someone to blame it on.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I didn't blame the police. I don't see anywhere in my statement that I blamed it on the police. Of course the kids were at fault for causing problems and fighting. I was merely insinuating that if there was a lack of police force, for a game that consisted of schools that have noted gang activity, it may have been because whoever sponsored the shootout, may not have wanted to spend additional money on police security. The Peoria police do not do it for free. They charge to work such events.

I was responding to the first post not yours. Just makes me want to puke when people can't enjoying a night at the ballgame. Police do get blamed far too often in such cases. They better not touch the troublemakers though. Still makes want to puke.

I agree Chico. The only thing that makes me puke more is the current Board of Trustees and the entire mess they have created on the hilltop. What a sad state of affairs, with no accountability anywhere on campus or in the board room.

this story sure died fast - not a single mention anywhere of any arrests or of any further results of the police involvement or investigation...
So does anyone actually know what started this and how it morphed into numerous fights both inside and out side of Ren-Col associated with a "stampede" of people trying to get out?

Must have been an over blown story to begin with.

That's a different story. One group is ruining sports programs on the Hilltop. The other is the ruination of America.
