Houston Baptist University of the Southland Conference, has only been playing basketball for 50 years, but they paid homage to their All Decade teams of the 1960's and 1970's on Saturday. They also wore throwback uniforms similar to the uniforms Houston Baptist wore in 1973-74, and they were rather unique-

Here is a thought- next season, 2015-2016 is the 30th anniversary of the 1985-86 NCAA team that went 32-3, it is also the 20th anniversary of the 1995-96 NCAA team which was the last BU team to win the MVC Conference, and it is also the 10th anniversary of the 2005-06 NCAA and Sweet 16 team.

Bradley needs to have promotions to bring back and honor those teams. I don't expect it will happen, since this administration seems to want to eliminate and forget Bradley's great past history.

I agree, this is a great idea, although this president won't allow it to happen. In addition, they have made enough people mad or hurt enough feelings, that not many would show up.

I would much rather see former players from the 50', 60's, 70's,80's recognized and interviewed at half time, while they're still alive, than dogs jumping through hula hoops or the horse and pony show they have running the joint.

At least I smile when I watch the dogs perform at half time. The dogs seem to perform a lot better on the court than our basketball team. I would like to welcome back past players at half time and hear them talk.

The Board of Trustees and administration is so inept. BU has one of the richest tradition in all of college basketball. The Board of Trustees has allowed it all to be severed by the current administration. There are so many athletes, from various sports that could come back as "ambassadors", to relate the tradition to younger fans, and generate revenue. The Chicago Blackhawks finally realized it when Rocky Wirtz took over. He brought back the guys that were a part of the tradition. They also have won and that helps. To know where you're going, you need to know where you've come from. This BOT and administration have failed on all accounts. They don't want them around or want them to be able to express their opinions, but when they open their wallets.....wow.....look how well they're liked by the BOT and administration. They can't wait to get their picture taken with them, presenting a check.

Here is a sad example from last year for the Wichita State game here at Carver Arena-
It was senior night for Bradley with Walt Lemon, Tyshon Pickett, Jordan Prosser, Chris Blake, and Mason Alwan. It was televised nationally in prime time (8:00 PM) on ESPN2. Wichita State came in with a record of 29-0, threatening to be the first team to go undefeated in MVC play since the 1985-86 Bradley Braves. It was the largest attendance of the year (10,257- the only home game over 9,000 last season).

Mitchell Anderson and Donald Reese drove down from Chicago and came to the game and sat in section 17 in the end zone.
For some unbelievable reason, they were not recognized, not announced, and not introduced at the game!
How many schools would ignore their own Hall of Fame stars at a home game? Mitchell Anderson even has the men's basketball practice court named after him, and has his uniform number retired and hanging on the Carver Arena wall, and yet nobody from Bradley bothered to recognize them, or introduce them to the crowd.

I remember in the early 60's, BU was a nationally recognized program and always in the top 10. They were also one of the few northern schools that would allow blacks to be a part of their basketball teams. The southern schools still did not let them in school. What a great educational tool they could use from that era. Yes, Da Coach is right....it's sad.

Throwback Uniforms

Coach....Your comments regarding last years Wichita game were "right On" 100% correct. It's a real tragedy that our school is being run by a group of strangers who have no real ties to Bradley, who could care less about our history and traditions, who are only interested in their personal $$ and power, who are incredibly incompetent, and who care less about the terrible result of their mismanagement while the trustees appear to be blind and uncaring.

However -- we ought to do this kind of thing more than once every year or two.....

PLUS -- all three of these events were with the wrong venue & atmosphere at Ren-Col, with very small early season crowds

and this was unfair to those guys - who should have been honored downtown at the ISU or Wichita game where
the season ticket fan base was there along with huge crowds

Once again our school leadership screwed things up. If you're not going to do it right, don't do it at all. People have no idea of the number of BU grads that went on to be successful high school basketball coaches in the area. Most are retired now, but could still be recognized. So many former athletes from BU, stayed in the area after graduation, to have successful careers in the business world. Not every D-1 school can say that.

The flop of recognizing these alums at Ren-Col just illustrates the reason why they shouldn't move games back to campus.

Yes, they should have been honored at a game in the Carver Arena, and given a proper introduction and a chance to speak to the crowd, which neither Chet nor AP were.

I know this thought is probably more in the pipe dream range...but.....next season is the triple whammy anniversary year of THREE different GREAT BU teams!!!

next year is the 10-YEAR anniversary of Bradley's Sweet Sixteen - hard to believe it's been that long already....
I think we ought to have a reunion of that team and honor them for the deepest run Bradley has had in the NCAA Tournament in the past 60 seasons...

and next season is the 20-year anniversary of our 22-8 NCAA Tourney season of 1995-96 - let's get AP, Bayo, Deon and the gang back & do it right

- as well as the 30-year anniversary of our 33-3 NCAA Tourney year of 1985-86
