  • Televised Games

Did our feckless and inept athletic department learn anything from the Comcast televised BU/ISU game. The telecast was sponsored by ISU and did a great job for them during the game. We hardly saw the BU bench or the team during time outs. Kurt Pegler is an unabashed ISU flack even though he earns his income from a Peoria TV station. So much for local loyalty!
Why can't BU put together a really good schedule of televised games with announcers who are BU oriented.

Yes, that is well known, but most announcers will tone down the homerism a bit when they know they are broadcasting to a much larger audience than their usual ISU fans, which was the case yesterday with the game on Comcast and ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.
For the record, in my opinion, Kurt is OK, but Bob Morris (the analyst) is the biggest homer I've ever listened to.

They also do not seem to do as much background research as Bradley fans are used to with Dave Snell, and Frank Bussone in the past. They made several notable mistakes in their broadcast yesterday.

I really don't care where Kurt Pegler graduated from.....He's a Peoria based sportscaster and as such should be a Bradley oriented guy. He can cover ISU for the Bloomington viewers but his primary orientation should be to BU, IMO. Clearly, he is an ISU guy and as far as I'm concerned should move to Bloomington and earn his living there instead of touting ISU shamlessly from a Peoria based TV Station.
From now on, I'm a Lee Hall & Jim Mattson viewer both of whom do a much better job than Pegler anyway, IMO. WMBD made a big mistake years ago when they replaced Dave Snell with "ISU Kurt".

Pegler might as well stay home. Morris never stops talking. He can analyze and expound upon a tipped pass for five minutes. Makes Dickie V. Look like an introvert. I had to mute my computer the second half.

Wiz it was an ISU broadcast. What do you expect? Also it might be Peoria based but the logo clearly says WMBD TV Peoria-Bloomington.

Lee Hall may be an ISU grad. but he doesn't endlessly tout ISU and ignore BU. Also, I believe Lee is a Peoria High school grad.
Also, WMBD may say "Bloomington" in their logo but they are a Peoria located station and the majority of their viewers are Peorians. Their station name of WMBD stands for "Worlds Most Beautiful Drive" and I don't believe that is located in Bloomington.

Lee Hall graduated from Spalding. I don't blame Pegler. I think he is good and doesn't play grandstander during his sports segment on WMBD, by trying to be cute and funny. He gives the news. Maybe if BU had something to be positive about, they would say something positive. I'm a BU fan but also am tired of reporters and broadcasters that are employed by the university, sugar coating everything. I'm an adult and I can take being told the way it is. And it ain't very good right now.

So now we have threads saying the local media is too supportive, and also not supportive enough, of BU.

In my opinion it's time to quit worrying about the media and worry about the task at hand. And that task is waking up the Board of Trustees.
