What a great game between the 2 ISU's. There were 15 lead changes in the 1st 28 minutes of the game until Blue went on a 15-2 run for about 5 minutes to get there biggest lead at 51-41. Red then goes on a 15-1 run in the next 4 minutes to get their biggest lead 56-52. There was 1 more lead change down the stretch and the teams traded FT's to send it into overtime. That's when the game went into overdrive as they traded the lead back and forth 8 more times, including 4 times in the last 40 seconds. Daishon Knight of Red scored 11 of his game high 21 points at the end of regulation and in overtime as he tried to get the Birds the win but Tre' Bennett made a layup with 3 seconds left to get the win for the Sycamores. Jake Kitchell led Blue with 15 points. Both teams shot 37% from the field. Red was 18 for 23 in FT's and 6 for 17 in 3's while Blue was 27 for 33 in FT's and 8 for 19 in 3's.

In the other 3 games Wichita scored the 1st 8 points and led 27 to 11 after 14 minutes and cruised to their latest win over SIU 67-55. Give credit to SIU they actually hung in their the whole way, at one time getting the lead cut to 9 but could get no closer. Darius Carter led the Shockers with 25 points.
Loyola and Drake staged a tug of war for the whole game as they went back and forth 19 times before the Ramblers hung on for the win. Christian Thomas led Loyola with 16 points while Gary Ricks Junior led Drake with 24. Ricks had 20 of the points in the 1st half including the last 17. He only took 3 shots in the 2nd half including a missed 3 to tie at the buzzer.
Evansville looked like they were going to be in for an easy night as they led by as much as 12 in the 1st half but the Bears chipped away and took the lead in the 2nd half. They went back and forth with neither team having a bigger lead than 3 during the last 14 minutes of the game. D. J. Balentine, who was just 1 for 11 for the game, hit a shot with 6 seconds left and Egidijus Mockevicius blocked a shot at the buzzer to hold on for the win. Mislav Brzoja led the Purple Aces with 18 while Mockevicius had another double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Whew. I'm tired just trying to keep track of all of these games.

Drake got only 14 pts out of their starters and scored only 47 pts total -
this is the fourth consecutive game they've scored 47 or LESS - so you wonder what the score will be when they play us...

Evansville edges MSU - 56-54 - both teams going with several of their starters well over 30 minutes - neither are very deep...

The only surprise in the standings is Indiana State -
We all knew Wichita & UNI would be at the top and at 5-0 & 4-1 - they are right where we expected.
Then you have SIU, Drake, & Bradley are all winless except the one win BU has over SIU - they fill the bottom 3 slots...
...and also as expected, in between we have Loyola, Evansville, ISU, & Missouri State all sitting right around .500

one other score that I mention only to rub it in...
sure, Creighton makes more money playing in their new conference, and to them, that's what it's all about...

but I guess I am a bit surprised to see how badly they are doing....
they have good players, yet they've lost six in a row and sit dead last at 0-5 in the Big East...two games behind their closest rival...

Their game centers heavily on 3-pt shots yet their 3-pt shooting is not always so good.
Austin Chatman (28.9%), Devin Brooks (23.3%), Ricky Kreklow (29.7%) are all shooting very poorly and only one guy on the roster shoots over 37%.

Oh well, we have our problems but misery loves company so nice to see Creighton shooting so badly and camping out in last place...

Greg McDermott is in his 21st season as a head coach...he's done reasonably well and gotten accolades, but ...
and his 15 yrs as DI - he has a grand total of ONE regular season Conference Title (2012-13 in MVC with Creighton 13-5), and has never advanced beyond a single win
in any NCAA Tourney - with the only wins coming when he had a National Player of the Year on his squad...
He's now experiencing the new reality of having to compete at a high level without Doug and he's going to have to step it up a notch..

I just can't believe that as bad as we are, we still have a chance of not finishing 10th in the league. Amazing.
