The first college football playoff championship will be decided tonight in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas between Oregon and Ohio State-
Betting on this first playoff championship game will set records for the most heavily bet college football game in history-
But here is the irony that involves NCAA basketball-
The first NCAA basketball tournament championship game was in 1939, and the 2 teams that battled for the title were...Oregon vs. Ohio State!
Oregon won that game 46-33, and was crowned the first NCAA basketball champion. That first NCAA championship game was played in Patten Gymnasium on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Patten Gymnasium was demolished the following year.
It would really be ironic if 46-33 was the score tonight.
But, Oregon is a 6.5 point favorite in tonight's football game.
One other meaningless irony being played up into a story by the media is that the Oregon Ducks mascot was designed and created by an Ohio company-
And another piece of trivia- the University of Oregon tried to create a new mascot in 2002, instead of the cuddly, chubby duck that is based on Disney's Donald Duck, but the new mascot, named Mandrake, was hated by everyone, so he quietly disappeared forever within a year-
Here is a funny promotional video for the game featuring the Oregon Duck and Brutus the Ohio State Buckeye-
Here was an earlier version featuring the 4 mascots from the final 4 teams (to be politically correct, Disney and ESPN replaced the Florida State Indian and horse official mascots with the FSU Glitter Guys)-
NIKE designed new uniforms for both teams for tonight's game-
