ST. LOUIS -- For the second time this year Bradley junior guard Jeremy Crouch is the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office earlier today. The third-leading scorer in The Valley at 16.8 points per game, Crouch averaged 23.0 points in Bradley's two wins last week. He scored 21 in Bradley's 82-73 victory Dec. 19 against Loyola-Chicago at Carver Arena, then added 25 points in last Saturday's 83-73 home win against Southern Miss. Crouch, who drained three 3-pointers in each of the two games and made all 18 of his free throw attempts, ranks among the national leaders in 3-point and free throw shooting. Majoring in secondary education with an emphasis in history, Crouch now boasts a 3.11 cumulative grade point average through the 2006 Fall semester and he has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in four of his first five college

How does one get selected as the scholar-athlete of the week? I'm sure each school nominates someone, but what criteria are being used?

        From mvc-sports.com:

Voting for MVC Scholar Athlete (is) conducted by the league's sports information directors.

"The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution."

Of those qualified individuals nominated, the sports information directors vote weekly based on athletic performance.
