  • Another angry fan writes letter to editor

In PJ Star - another long time season ticket holder writes - this is getting pretty amazing...

    just a few lines...
"Bradley's basketball problems start at the top"

"All successful collegiate athletic programs have several characteristics in common.
They all begin with a college president who understands and embraces the relationship
between the academic world and the athletic world and who will not micromanage either.
A smart and successful college president will hire a competent athletic director ...
a competent head coach and assistant coaches in each of those sports. ...
Then ...recruit talent ....Unfortunately, the Bradley University basketball program lacks each of these necessary characteristics..
Attendance is declining and the fan base is vanishing. The talent level at Bradley is not Division I talent. Bradley is, in a word, bad.

As a Bradley graduate, I’m embarrassed that Bradley basketball has fallen to a new low
... in a few years, Bradley will be playing Division II and the games will be played at The Renaissance Coliseum.
Is that really the direction Bradley wants to go? The time for change is now and the clock is ticking."

the guy is pretty harsh --

they sure did in 2002 and 2011 and used the letters as a key part of their argument to make massive changes...
but this is kinda unprecedented for such letters to be showing up within only about 3-4 years of hiring a new coach

Lets just hope the Board of Trustees reads them. They are our only hope.

I am sure that the Board knows about these letters, and has even received many more themselves. The problem is that the Board has many other things they consider more important, and they would rather not be bothered with issues like an embarrassing and failing athletic department. They consider that to be a problem for the President and athletic director to fix.
But since there are other important issues with the administration that the Board is now concerned with, fans may still get their wish.

remember the one anti-JL letter that was from a guy who claimed to be a lifelong fan but who was actually discovered via a little digging to be instead a guy who never went to games but who was actually an employee of a PJ Star subsidiary..
It was obviously a little bit of a staged effort by the media to "beat the drum"...

I agree. Basketball is only a side bar to the academic disaster the university is in. If there are changes made at the top, it will be due to her failings in the academic/faculty/financing area as opposed to the athletic department.
