  • ESPN's Joe Lunardi issues his early NCAA Tournament field projection

His "Bracketology" - which is always hyped as accurate - however he revises it almost every day so of course the final one in March is always accurate...
But the one he issues earliest, in January, is a pure crapshoot based on everyone's record & ranking now.

He does have BOTH Wichita (4-seed) and Northern Iowa (6-seed) getting in..
He does not have loyola nor Evansville getting in - and I will be quite surprised if UNI gets a #6-seed.

I think his claims of accuracy apply only to his final prediction.

but people start quoting his January predictions as if they are accurate...
i know he's not the most accurate, but he's the easiest to find, so here is Lundardi's most recent bracketology: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology other notes: he moved OSU down to a 6 he moved Wisc. down to a 3 he kept Iowa at a 4 and MSU as a 1 B1G gets 6 teams in Lunardi's bracket (the above and 9 seend Minny)

anyway, the Wall Street Journal checked his accuracy in 2009 and found that plenty of other people who do the same thing are MORE accurate

Then last year (2013) one other service ranked 40 different bracket projections from the year before - and Lunardi was said to have ranked 36th out of the 40 in accuracy...
Later that same year, however, in 2013 Lunardis prediction for the 2013 field was quite accurate - but then so were a lot of others'

I always assumed his January and Febuary Bracketology's were based on if the tournament were to start when he posts them, not for March.

Right now, I think UNI is a 6 seed, don't you? Come on March, that will probably change.

Also, he changes his picks / projections based on what happens on the court. UNI is a 6 seed now, but depending on what they do from now til selection Sunday, can change that up or down.

I didn't see Bradley's name in there. I bet I just missed it. Let me go thru it again

but let's say a few yards into a horse race I tell you who the leaders are...
that's always a nice thing to know but it isn't rocket science - anyone could do it....
and it would have little relevance to who is gonna win the race 1/2 mile later...bound to change...

That's how I look at Lunardi's early Bracketology...interesting but not really anything that just about anyone else can't do and not real relevant to what'll happen in March...
