Maybe Dave Reynolds sugar coats everything because he is around Geno so much, it has worn off on him. The second half against Wichita was horrendous! How a D-1 team can only make 4 baskets in 20 minutes is a farce. That is a result of NO half-court offense. Ford's half court offense is nothing more than ball screens that are not good screens for the ball handler to come off of. The amount of dribbling this team does in their half court sets, drives me nuts. I have never seen so many poor decisions by players on the floor, at both ends of the floor. That is from lack of discipline in coaching. Ozzie Orsborne and Joe Stowell would pull a kid out, chew their butt, tell them what they did wrong, slap them on the butt and send them back in the game. These guys look like they will not be taken out nobody what they do, unless they get in foul trouble. Geno is so hung up on rotation that often times, it takes away from momentum. What happened to our great defense? As I said in another post, our defense is not as good as we are led to believe. Anybody that has played or coached can see that. Good defense is consistent. That doesn't mean you won't have a break down. But you won't have a break down for 20 minutes, where you get no steals for layups off your defense, to break a scoring drought. On offense we have absolutely no team concept. All you have to do is look at the assist column. None of Geno's teams have had a team concept at BU. When BU makes a good pass that leads to a basket, you can feel a sense of relieve and positive energy at Carver Arena. You don't feel that too much. You just hope when certain players get the ball, they don't drag their foot or dribble of their foot. A lot of people criticize Albeck and Stan had his faults. But he made Hawkins an awful lot of money in the NBA by running the pro turnout offense for him in college. In order to do that you've got to have people that can get the ball to him and set good hard screens in the low post. We don't have anybody near Hawkins ability or anybody that is taught how to make passes like Anthony Manuel or set good hard screens like Trempe, Thomas and Jones. You don't have to be super stars or all conference to execute the fundamentals. Just taught and disciplined. We have none of that.

But even Stan was a smart enough coach to make adjustments when they were needed to keep teams from creating defenses that would foil his offense.
The pro-turnout involved Hersey essentially running figure-eights around the 2 low post players who set screens just outside each side of the lane. When Bob Donewald tweaked his defense so that when Hersey came around one of the two low-post screens, the defenders switched, and the big man jumped out on Hawkins, making it hard for him to get his shot. That defense allowed ISU to beat Bradley in Peoria in the first game they played in the 1987-88 season, the only time Hawkins lost to ISU in his final 3 seasons.
In the next game at ISU, Stan put a wrinkle into the pro turnout, so when the defenders switched, and the ISU big man jumped out at Hersey, Hawk threw a simple bounce pass in to Powell or Jones, and they had an easy time turning to the basket and making layups all game against the guard who had switched and was defending them. It was a small addition, but it took away the defense that Donewald used to beat Bradley earlier, and as a result, Bradley beat a pretty good ISU team in Normal that season before a packed crowd at old Horton Fieldhouse.

As Bradley collapses go, Wichita State less gruesome than Memphis.
Doesn't Dave realize how ridiculous is it to be comparing and ranking the levels of Bradley collapses?
Most writers prefer to write about and rank the best results a team has achieved.
But Dave has been reduced to trying to convince himself and us that some blowout losses aren't quite as bad as others...
He keeps writing about Bradley's embarrassing, record-setting one-sided blowout losses, and trying to find the bright spots in them.

I think the "Hawk" would have had a pretty high point average his last 2 seasons anyway, but not as high as he did. Believe he averaged 13 ppg his first season and 18 ppg his second, so he might have been in the mid to high 20's his last 2 seasons. Just a great scorer. What part of illegal don't you understand?

First of all, Hawkins would have transferred to Villanova. That was a done deal until Albeck came. Secondly, the pro turnout game Hawk many more opportunities to not just shoot, but create shots, that he never had before. There is a huge difference between being a good shooter and a good scorer. Hawk was a good scorer. The third thing is, the 3 point shot came in during Hawkins junior season. That added additional points to his average. What part of illegal don't you understand?
