I was just watching the Villanova-Seton Hall game on TV
and the refs -- All three of them, plus the ones at the scorers table...
made a mistake and it is a mistake we have seen made before...
A Villanova player stomped on a Seton Hall player while we was on the floor - a la Ndamukong Suh-style...
The refs reviewed the play and awarded a Flagrant I and sent a Seton all player to the FT line
But they mistakenly treated the play as if it was a technical - and allowed the best Seton Hall player to go to the FT line and make the FTs.
BUT - Villanova head coach Jay Wright was smarter than all the refs and he challenged the ruling...
which the refs then overturned and waived off the made FT and then sent the proper player to the line - because this is NOT a technical even tho many refs seem to treat it as such.
..the guy who was actually fouled and stomped on then went to the line. (btw - the proper shooter missed both, so Wright's correction of the refs saved a couple points)
BUT I have seen this same confusing mistake made several times by different ref crews...
In fact we've even talked about it in MVC games and I believe it happened in a Bradley game as well.
