Box score for the Evansville Purple Aces vs. Northern Iowa Panthers NCAAM game from January 1, 2015 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.
indeed - with UNI leading the first 36 minutes of the game - much of it by double digits...
Evansville came storming back and outscored UNI 15-6 over the final 5 minutes to pull out a 52-49 victory.
UNI's starting five minus Tuttle went only 4-14 - and scored only 9 points!
Balentine had 17 & EMock 12 pts/13 rebs!
Evansville was only 1-11 from the arc - we need to zone them!
If teams picked at the top of the MVC are losing early on - even some (ISU) losing at home, then this could be closer than many thought...
I have said since last summer that (despite a few deceptive RPI figures) the Valley would be weak from spots 3-10 and I still think in the end Wichita & UNI will finish 1-2.
Which means - an upper half spot is there for the taking if our team can get its act together, score some points, make shots, and win.
Evansville came from behind and beat UNI 52-49. UNI led 28-12 late in the 1st half and the Purple Aces kept chipping away and finally took their 1st lead of the game at the 1:43 mark. Evansville made their last 13 FT's of the game, including 4 in the last 10 seconds, to help get the win. DJ Balentine led the Purple Aces with 17 points and Egidijus Mockevicius had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Seth Tuttle had 18 points for UNI. I really think Evansville is a real dark horse in the MVC.
?? This morning's front page column in the Sports section by Dave Reynolds...
covers the MVC results from the 1st round of games...
The article is in Friday morning's paper but covers only the games from Wednesday afternoon and mentions yesterday's UNI-Evansville game as if it had not happened yet...no mention of results or who won..
Maybe they left this out of Thursday's paper and decided to make up for it and put it in today's?
I was also mystified, and so were a number of others I have talked to. But the posting date and time on Dave's article is last night at 9:50 PM. That is well after the UNI-Evansville game finished. So why only re-hash games that were played Wednesday afternoon, and not even mention the biggest upset, and perhaps the best game in the 1st round of MVC games, the UNI-Evansville game.
I am sure it has something to do with the new PJ Star policy of printing holiday newspapers a full day early, apparently so they can have the day off. Thursday's paper was delivered to me Wednesday PM.
