Oklahoma strength & conditioning coach gets fired...

reportedly a booster gave money to the staffer to hand out to players while they were on their trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis.

"Oklahoma basketball strength coach Jozsef Szendrei (a player who played at Oklahoma under Kelvin Sampson)
has been dismissed after the OU compliance staff discovered an NCAA extra-benefit violation, sources confirmed Monday evening.

The violation came during the men’s basketball team’s trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament late last month, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

A booster provided cash to a traveling staffer, who was supposed to pass the money along to players."

A booster gave a staffer for the program a stack of cash to give to the players during Oklahoma’s trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Oklahoma was still on probation from the $3,000 that a financial adviser had given ‘Tiny’ Gallon during the Jeff Capel era."

The Oklahoman is the number one source for Oklahoma City breaking news, politics, business, sports, entertainment and obituaries.

Hmm...booster just hands over wads of cash to a member of the coaching staff to give to players......
and it happens while Oklahoma is on probation for an identical offense previously???
    ...nawwww...this stuff never happens....

I am not buying that this sleazy corruption only went as high as an unnamed booster, and a low-level staffer (The Oklahoma directory lists Jerry Schmidt as the Director of Sports Enhancement [strength & Conditioning] and they have 7 others listed as working under him, including Jozsef Szendrei). This guy IMO is a fall guy that these big schools always employ to keep the coaches as clean as snow.

The articles say, "It is unclear at this time if the cash ever reached players??™ hands". BS, not only were the athletes benefiting from this kind of sleazy slush fund, anyone who thinks this was a one-time thing is naive or stupid.

These big schools have dozens of these kinds of assistants to assistants (anyone recall the Rick Pitino adultery scandal involving his "chauffeur"?) who are patronage employees, but because they do not have true coaching duties, they are not under any rules or governance of the NCAA, and can be used to sidestep the extra-benefits rules without dirtying the hands of the coaches.
And just like Kelvin Sampson himself, this low-level staffer- Jozsef Szendrei, AKA the "fall guy" will resurface somewhere else, working for another corrupt regime.
