  • Do we or don't we have another scholarship for next year?

I have been reading many conflicting posts about whether or not we can bring in one more player next year. We need a BIG very badly. Can someone straighten this out once and for all? People keep posting things about new recruits for next year while I read somewhere else that we do not have anymore scholarships available. Thanks for the help!

Bradley DOES NOT presently have another scholarship to offer for next year, 2007-2008.

These are the 13 players who would be onscholarship in 2007-2008 unless someone leaves:

    Ray Brown
    Jeremy Fears
    Jeremy Crouch
    Saihou Jassey
    Daniel Ruffin
    Matt Salley
    Sam Singh
    Andrew Warren
    Sam Maniscalco
    Will Egolf
    Anthony Thompson
    DeAaron Williams
    Dwight Buycks

It is possible that any one or more could decide to leave, but that is all speculation.
If all goes according to plan, then after next year (2007-200 BU will be able to bring in THREE more players for 2008-2009, and it would appear at this time that two of those scholarships are already spoken for in
    Daniel West
    Xavier Crawford

so BU would appear to still have one more scholarship to give for 2008-2009.

At the present time, they have no scholarships. One would (will?) open up if DW does not make it at ICC.

I don't think that's the scholarship BU plans on opening up. All of BU's incoming recruits are on track to qualify academically.
        Onward and Upward!

I bet a scholarship opens via someone leaving. I know there are a couple guys who are unhappy and don't seem to think they fit in for one reason or another. We will see...

What BU has lacked for many years is a guy like Grant Stout. Big, strong, dependable, knows the game, and can shoot. Many of the Valley's successful teams over the years have had one of these type of players, but we never seem to land one because Mo (when he was here) and Les always are looking for the athletic guy. Well, we have a few athletic big guys who just can't play fundamental basketball in Jassey, Andrews and Salley. We have a BANGER in Sam, but he never plays and I am not sure if he can do the things a guy like Stout can because I have not seen enough of him. I know that Sam is becoming inpatient with his lack of time. Sorry for the ramble, just had to vent.

Maybe this should be a separate thread, but I've been very surprised about Sam's lack of playing time. As weak as we are in the post, and given what we saw from him in the few games he wasn't injured before this season, I expected him to be getting 15+ minutes a game this year.... Is his lack of playing time a result of his injury (because he's had trouble getting into playing shape) or his game?

Does anyone think we are still going to get some quality minutes from Sam this year, or is he going to ride the pine all season?

Sam's knee is still bothering him. I doubt we can count on him for any meaningful minutes this season.
Whatever we can get from Sam will be a bonus, until the knee allows him to play himself back into top condition.

I would like to see SJ get more playing time...all the reports I have heard from posters who have seen him first hand say he has a little Boogie in him and that he is very athletic.

Saihou is an amazing athlete, that's for sure. Howeverm he is also EXTREMELY fould prone. It's hard to get your shot when you're in the game for under five minutes and get 3 fouls...
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

Good take BuSoccer...I have not had a chance to see him play as I have not gotten to a game yet this year...I would assume without seeing him that he is one of those athletes who are very raw in the basketball iq and specific skills.
