A good friend of mine has worked in the newspaper industry for 37 years. He told me a few years ago that everything they do is geared to direct people to their online version.

But it still gets back to supporting the advertisers of the online version (as compared to the print version) for their survival.

Information control is right around the corner...

But, hey, what about them Cubbies!!!! (and Giants) :-)
"Free press" is the only thing that has ever kept our government in check. To believe everything that one political party says is ignorance. Hitler was elected in a democratic election. People get most of their information from cable news. You have republican news channels and democratic news channels. Information control is already taking place on both of those media outlets. In our society, money talks and b.s. walks. That is why....back to athletics...schools such as Bradley and conferences such as the MVC, can't compete with the big boys on a regular basis. We may want to think we can but it is clearly a situation of the haves and have nots. We can blame the media, the NCAA, or whatever, but it comes down to those that have money and those that don't. Athletics is much like society. Those that don't have success, blame those that do for their weaknesses.

plenty of papers that survive on nothing but ads...and they hand them out free everywhere...
but the PJS prices themselves out of any realistic chance of getting 90% of ads people want to place..

Many times I have wanted to sell something then as soon as I check their ad prices I about gag...no wonder so many people do ebay or craigslist
..again...they are so bad at doing what they've had the 100% monopoly on for 100 yrs - that they caused their own competition to be developed and now they've lost all that business. Hard to feel sorry for them when they've been sticking it to people for decades with their ridiculous ad prices.

I don't know that anyone feels sorry for them??¦.I know I pay less for an ad now than I did 5 years ago and that was less than 10 years??¦.my subscription price has gone up though??¦which really ticks my wife off.

on most mornings half the paper is ads and at 10K per page they're hauling in at least $300K a day!

..it's like the govt - the revenue is there

Forget the published rates T. I wouldn't post what I have paid for a full page but 10k is dreaming I never paid anything close to that ever
