the countdown is on...we play Drake Feb. 11 and I think we have a shot...to end it at 33 ( we won't win at Wichita)
If we don't win on 2/11, then we're almost certainly going to lose at Cedar Falls, and in both Missouri State & St. Louis thus carrying the curse into next fall at 37 games..

One more comment about Bradley's yearly ineptitude against zone defenses-
Despite my screen name, I don't have a lot of coaching experience, so I am not trying to tell anyone how to coach. But I do know that if an opponent zones you, there are other ways to efficiently attack a zone successfully and score, other than settling for low-percentage 3-point shots which none of your players seem capable of making. Anyone can Google "attacking a zone defense" or "beating a zone defense" and you'll find numerous strategies that can be successfully employed against a zone.
Especially now that Bradley has a good ball-handling and good passing point guard, we either need to do more fast breaking, and more quick offensive sets before the zone can get set. Or alternatively, we can try to do more cutting and passing, and patience to get the zone to break down. We need to find the gaps in the zone, as every zone defense has gaps and weak spots. We need to do more dribble-penetration, which usually draws a double teaming, and that means open guys. Even a simple inside-out passing game will result in a zone collapsing inward, and provide our big men opportunities for assists by passing out to the guards for better shots against a zone than we seem to be getting. However, we virtually never have our big men pass the ball back out. In fact, none of our big men are close to averaging anywhere close to 1 assist per game. Our collection of big inside men (Morgan, Shaw, & Taylor) have a total of 12 assists on the year and all 3 have played in all 12 games. That is an average of 1 assist per game for all 3 combined! Isn't there anyone on the staff capable of coaching the big men?
But for some reason, our staff seems to be resigned to the fact that we are hopelessly impotent and powerless against a zone, and Coach Ford seems ready to concede defeat against any team that zones us, which will probably be every team the rest of the year.

I have coached basketball and did so for 21 years. Beating a zone defense is not difficult and it doesn't take a rocket scientist. The major reason you don't see it any more is due to the 3 point shot and it is harder to beat a good man-to-man. Most teams that play zone defense have a height disadvantage. To beat a zone you need to do these basic things:
1. Pass the ball instead of dribbling (defense can't move as quickly as a good crisp pass, thus creating openings)
2. See the entire floor
3. Be able to shoot a 10-20 foot jump shot (allows for pressure defense)
4. Make layups (allows for pressure defense)
5. Make free throws (allows for pressure defense)
BU can't do any of these and hasn't been able to since Ford got here. He blames it on the players and mental toughness. Well...who got those players at $700,000 a year? I'm relatively certain these players were able to do those things in grade school or high school or they wouldn't still be playing the game. It gets back to discipline and coaching. There is none.
While I'm at it, the first thing we do when we get the ball in the post area, is put it on the floor. That is the first thing they teach you not to do in the 3rd grade. The first thing we do against a press is put the ball on the floor. That is the first thing they teach you not to do in the 3rd grade. When was the last time you saw one of our players set a screen and have the player the screen was set for, come of the screen shoulder to shoulder, to utilize the screen. People ask me why we don't press more. I tell them if you can't play consistent defense in the half-court, you can't play it full-court. Our defense is highly over rated.
