  • Remember - a lot of people scoffed and laughed at the idea of Golden State hiring a new coach that has ZERO experience?
Oddly - Steve Kerr wanted the Knicks job but they didn't want him for lack of experience...

So all Kerr's done is lead the Golden State Warriors to the best record and the wide opinion that they are the best team in the league.
Shoots the "experience" issue all to heck, doesn't it??

    • Yes it does. You either know basketball or you don't. It's not rocket science.

Not really??¦??¦.I don't think I would take one year and use it totally.

Besides he was with the Suns organization for 5-6 years after his 15 year playing career so it's not like he hasn't been around??¦.

        • UC-Davis won again least night with Corey Hawkins resting out to get his leg healthy
Kinda blows that argument that they are only winning because they have the league's top player.
Also, with Utah State's coaching spot vacancy coming up at the end of the season, I saw discussions of possible candidates on two different message boards.
Jim Les' name mentioned prominently both times...

          • Yikes-
Hollywood star wants to drop nuclear bomb on UC-Davis!!

Should this not be considered a hate crime or threat and the woman arrested and jailed?

Comedienne, radical, and staunch Israel and democracy supporter Roseanne Barr took to Twitter this week in response to a vote by UC Davis to divest from a slew of American companies doing business in Israel. |

            • Axz Republic Sports Columnist Stories on Corey Hawkins

Nice mention of Corey Hawkins in two of AZ Republic Sports Section Columnist Doug Haller's Articles. Corey was an all state guard at Estrella Mountain HS in West Phoenix Valley, accepted a scholarship at ASU MBB Program (Herb Sendek), but transferred to UCD after he had injuries during his freshman year to play for JL.

              Pure Scorer

"I watched UC Davis guard Corey Hawkins against Washington State and came away thinking he might be the purest scorer in college basketball.

This likely doesn't come as a surprise to basketball fans in Arizona. Hawkins set high-school scoring records during his days at Goodyear Estrella Foothills High, once scoring 65 points in a game, hitting 14 3-pointers.

This season Hawkins ??“ who spent his freshman season at Arizona State before leaving for UC Davis -- averages 20.3 points, shooting 51.6 percent from the field, 48.6 from 3-point range and 81 from the foul line. He also averages 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals, making him the nation's highest-rated player, according to stat analyst Ken Pomeroy. (Duke freshman ??“ and National Player of the Year candidate ??“ Jahlil Okafor is second.)

Against Washington State, Hawkins scored 29 points, collecting them in a variety of ways. He shot jumpers off ball screens and used them to get into the lane. He added six rebounds, six assists and five steals, spending time at both guard positions. The NBA probably is a long shot, but a UC Davis official told me five NBA scouts are expected to attend Saturday's contest against Long Beach State. DraftExpress.com lists the 6-3 Hawkins as the nation's No. 74 senior"

              Big-time scorer

"Corey Hawkins has missed UC-Davis' past two games with a lower-leg injury, but the former Arizona high school star has been one of college basketball's more consistent threats. Entering this week, Hawkins averages 21.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists, shooting a nation's best 52.6 percent from 3-point range. As a result, the Aggies are 18-4 and 8-1 in the Big West."

              Curious
Don't remember at the time, but
              • Did JL/BU recruit Corey in 2008-9 or 2009-10 while he was in high school and JL still head coach at BU? Did Corey ever visit BU?
              • Did Corey have any interest in BU/JL before the 2010-11 season started?

              • Jim did not recruit the oldest Hawkins boy, Brandon, because he did not want to play at his father's school.
But that was never an issue for Corey. However, Corey was a much better player and got high-major interest very early in his career. He committed to Arizona State well before his junior season started at Estrella Mountain HS (he was a 2010 recruit and committed 9/6/08 ). I am sure Jim would have like to have Corey from the start, but he knew he had the talent to go much higher.

                • Too bad for JL's chances of continuing on at BU that he didn't consider Corey, and, Corey didn't consider BU in 2010 to help JL turn it around.

In retrospect, looks like "big school' wasn't ultimately a make or break priority for Corey or for that matter joining a successful team.

ASU's record was similar to BU's when he was recruited by ASU.
When he decided to transfer from big school ASU to small school UCD, the prior year (2010-11) ASU/BU/UCD MBB records were ironically similar:

                  BU 2008-09 ................ 10-8 21-15
                  BU 2009-10 ................ 9-9 16-15
BU 2010 ..................... Corey not recruited by BU
                  BU 2010-11 ................ 4-14 12-20

                  ASU 2008-09 .............. 11-7 25-10
                  ASU 2009-10 .............. 12-6 22-11
ASU 2010 ................... Corey recruited by ASU
                  ASU 2010-11 .............. 4-14 12-19 Corey Frosh at ASU
ASU 2011 ................... Corey transfers to UCD

                  UCD 2008-09 .............. 7-9 13-9
                  UCD 2009-10 .............. 8-8 14-18
                  UCD 2010-11 .............. 4-12 12-20
UCD 2011 ................... Corey transfers to UCD
UCD 2011-12 .............. Corey redshirts at UCD

                  • I seriously doubt that even if Corey came to Bradley in 2010, as a freshman, he would not have helped the team enough with all the injuries/illnesses to save Jim's job. In fact, the President was hell-bent on firing Jim, and IMO there is zero chance anything would have changed that.
Then Corey would have left with Jim for UC Davis (unless BU refused to release him), leaving Bradley no better off than they were.

                      agree - that is fact
we are where we are pretty much as a result of one person's decisions

BTW - the only two other teams in the Big West with above-.500 records
both lost today (UC-Irvine & Long Beach State) so that gives UC-Davis a 2 or 3-game lead (plus tiebreakers) on the other two contenders.
But the need to stay healthy and win that tournament!!!!!
