Wichita loses to Utah 69-68 in a game that has some people re-drawing their mock drafts for 2015 & 2016...
This game was televised and kinda showed that Wichita IS beatable..
Both Van Vleet (5-19) & Baker (6-13 and at times a defensive liability) looked a bit more ordinary against a good opponent, and the Utah center Jakob Poeltl was impressive and will have a few people adding his name to their mock drafts
Indiana State gets thumped pretty solid by Butler 77-54
The Sycs drew 5,528
Loyola loses 83-70 to Tulane and were out-rebounded 37-22! Their starting frontcourt totaled just 3 rebs.
SIU beat SIUE 79-67 - game was on TV and shows Barry can definitely take players who nobody else wanted like Bola Olanynan, Chaz Glotta, & Jordan Caroline and develop them into pretty decent players. Anthony Beane went 11-18, 28 pts.
D. Stewart 17 & 5.
SIU had a 26 pt lead with 14 minutes and an 18 pts lead with 5 to go, yet SIUE hung tough!
Valparaiso wins again on the road against a very good EKU team and is 8-1
Alec Peters hits 7 of 8 3-pt attempts, ends with 21 pts & 7 rebs
Manual's Lawrence Alexander had a nice game - 23 pts, 4 reb, 4 asst, and 7-11 from 3-pt but they lose to Southern Miss,
ex-BU recruit Rasham Suarez had 13 pts & 6 asst for USM who pulled out the win 78-65
FGCU whose home attendance just a few years ago (2005) was 500, and just as recently as 2009 when they made some staff changes was 1300 - is now drawing an average of over 4,500 per game and they go to 7-1
Creighton got thumped by Tulsa 77-64 - Creighton as a team is hitting only 34% from the arc -
Shayok Shayok with 11 pts/7 rebs but little help from teammates as UMKC falls to UWM 65-56
Bruce Pearl not getting the headlines he had hoped for at Auburn....he was criticized in the press for throwing a tantrum at the end of Auburn's
loss to Texas Tech, refusing to go thru the handshake line, and walking off the court in a huff ...later pretending he did not when asked by the press.
(There's some history there going back to when Bruce Pearl was at Tennessee & Tubby Smith was at Kentucky)
Despite his highly touted incoming recruiting class, his team still struggles to score...and they lose 46-44 to Texas Tech...and they scored only 35 pts vs. Tulsa last wk.
Ex-BU recruit Alex Foster, now a sophomore at Texas Tech barely sees any playing time & averages 1 ppg - maybe aimed "too high"?

as I was watching the Loyola/UIC game I was thinking about this topic....
what MVC players "DEVELOPED" into BETTER players during their time in college..
well, I can think of one outstanding example right off the bat ..
Hersey Hawkins was good as a freshman averaging 14 ppg..but he developed from there to score 18 ppg, then 27 ppg, then 36 ppg...that's developing!!!
Doug McDermott sure made himself into a better player - so did Toure Murry, Van Vleet, Baker, etc...
I can think of a few more easily...
Anthony Parker --- 11 ppg -->> 14 ppg -->> 19 ppg...
Bayo Akinkunle - 2, then 5, then 12, then 15 ppg with 8 rebs...
Rob Dye developed into a nice scorer in his four years..
Pollard developed over just 2 years...
Rabey developed over 2 years
Bennett, Ruffin, Cellus, Boogie, POB -- all showed nice development into a Sweet Sixteen bunch
..so did Crouch, Maniscalco, Warren, Theron Wilson, DSE, Taylor Broww, Walt... - all developed into All-MVC players!!!
As I am watching this game and saw the SIU game last night I see a number of kids that were unheralded that have developed into good players
UIC's Jake Wiegand is averaging 16ppg & 9 rpg - was virtually unheard of when recruited and started as a freshman at 2 ppg...Thomas, Doyle, and Harris look good, too - all consistently scoring numbers that would put them in the top 10-12 in the MVC...
