well - nice to get the win....
Warren Jones had a nice shooting nite - hit 5-10 from the arc and drew a few fouls so picked up some scoring from the FT line...totaled 33 pts...
He's still a little sloppy with the ball but maybe a bit better on defense..
Omari still looks shaky - not moving well and turning down good shots - although he hit a couple threes
Sutherland not dressed - heard he may not play for another couple weeks
Josh Cunningham coming along - rips rebounds right out of the hands of other guys - aggressive near the hoop -
the combo of Xzavier/Shaw/Jermaine was more effective tonight - they combined for 14 pts/13 rebs - and did NOT miss so many layups!!
Barnes had a good all around game
but our defense on the point and perimeter sent their guys to the FT line a ton..
Fowler was 16-20 from the FT line!
overall - they are probabaly not a real strong team for coming in here 5-0...but their schedule to this point was cushy and tonight they actually had to face a team on the road...
we still throw some awfully bad lob passes...
now just a little bit about the game in general..
-small-time atmosphere in small arena with a lot of lower bowl seats empty
-they had a free bacon promotion for the students but extremely few showed so they gave away gobs of bacon to the rest of the fans
-parking is a sore spot - many people unfamiliar, clogging lanes, sitting still in the parking deck waiting for someone to maybe back out of a spot (& it doesn't happen), and the line of cars backed up from the deck all the way back a couple blocks to the Main & Univ. intersection, thus that intersection backed up all the way to I-74 with people exiting I-74 backing up down the exit ramp and all the way into the traffic lanes...
-one ambulance while I was stuck in traffic on Main by Swords Hall was also stuck for 4-5 minutes trying to go west past all the blockade of cars..
then by 6:45pm the parking deck was 100% full but nobody could know that so people kept pulling into the deck then traversing slowly all the way up to level 5 before realizing there were NO spots, then they had to turn around and slowly work their way back with all the car & foot traffic blocking the lanes to get out & search for parking 2-3 blk away over by Campustown...
More than a few were grumbling...

. Not the best message
I was one of them but still have about 1-2 hours of work tonight and didn't really want to spend an extra 30 minutes in the deck. Actually the best place to park is the gravel lot down by Bradley Avenue.
It was a good game and I like WJ more and more but like Dave S said when he hit 33-to think the Hawk avg 36 points and we get excited when we have a player hit 30 these days

Post game arena talk
What do successful sports teams do when the program and fan interest is on the rise? They build bigger arenas.
What do programs do when interest is on the decline and the program is shrinking? Move into smaller ones. I'm sorry, but settling for even a full RenCol would equate to intentionally shrinking your program in national relevance. The building has got a small time feel.
The scripted sales pitch we hear every year from Ford, Cross, and now even Snell is infuriating to me personally. That little gym will never equal the loud excitement of a full Carver Arena. But this admin wouldn't know bc they weren't here to see the games I have. The only reason Carver is now not a "basketball atmosphere" is because of the poor performance of the last 5 seasons.Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.
