BU women 4-4, last 8 games

This one started rough; 6 early turnovers and the Braves trailed 14-5. But they calmed down and took a 31-29 lead that the half.

Freshman forward Sims had 16 points, 9 rebounds, Sophomore Tinjum had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Young proved leadership down the stretch and 13 points.

Loyola shots were hotly contested and they only shot 35 percent.

Note: 3 time Olympic Gold Medalist and WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes coaches the Ramblers.

BU goes to 4-10 in conference play and 4-4 in the last 8 games, though 3 of those wins came from the bottom 2 teams of the conference (Loyola twice, Illinois State once).

It was a very good finish and Coach Brooks did a nice job down the stretch rotating 5 at a time w/a any let up. There is a very good future w/ the girls team as they have some very nice freshman and sophomores.

I agree. The team seems to be moving in the right direction and I for one am looking forward to the future of the team.

Unfortunately, Bradley's offense stalled out, and SIU pulled ahead for the 72-66 win-

20 turn overs and poor perimeter defense did us in; their guards ate us alive from outside.

Rebounding kept us in the game.

                    Bradley-60

                    • Bradley started out well (21-11 or something like that) but then got very careless with the ball; BU went scoreless for the final 4:30 in the first half which enabled ISU to tie it at 27.

Then in the second half, ISU raced to a 6 point lead. But eventually, BU took better care of the ball and hit some shots to pull even, and then take control of the game.

Turnovers kept the game closer than it had to be. That is the 5'th conference win, assuring it of no worse than 8'th. Winning one of the upcoming road games would be a big help, but one of those is against a tough Drake squad; the other is Northern Iowa.

                          • Bradley turned in its highest scoring game of the year in Missouri Valley Conference play behind a team-best 18 points from sophomore Whitney Tinjum (Stacy, Minn./Chisago Lakes/Washington State), but Drake shot 63 percent in the second half and topped the Braves 86-70 Thursday at the Knapp Center.

                            • Drake shot 53 percent and cleared their bench when they were up by 20+. They are no. 2 in the conference and BU simply isn't good enough to compete with them.

But the Northern Iowa game: though UNI should win the game, BU has a bona fide shot at an upset in this one.

                              • Here's a funny sidelight regarding Bradley women's basketball...

can you imagine how this would be considered so offensive, demeaning, and sexist in our day and age -
and yet obviously the BU women's team considering it complimentary back in 1983-84

It is the women's basketball press guide showing a cheesecake photo with the caption...
                                "Looking Good and Good Looking"

btw - here's a link to a better picture but it would take too much bandwidth to post
