  • Terrible attendance

Since some people disputed the awful attendance estimates and even disputed the actual photographs of the small numbers of fans in the seats last game, our photographers have provided more pictures from last night's game, taken at the time when the peak number of fans would be in their seat, and showing the time on the scoreboard to prove for the most hardened skeptic that these pictures weren't taken after the game, or after a fire drill, or that they were not photoshopped.

By the way, the announced attendance of 5,086 easily sets a record for the lowest announced attendance for a regular season game at the Carver Arena since the games moved there in 1982. I believe it also is lower than any attendance, even at the Fieldhouse, since the 1950's or earlier.
But there were also as many no-shows as there were tickets sold. My estimate for actual people at the game is about 2,400-2,500 people.
These pictures were all taken around the 12 minute timeout mark of the first half.
    Here is the photographic proof-

    -the weather
-people thought it was Robert Morris from Springfield
-they were all out getting refreshments or in the restrooms
-students had to study for finals
-some football game (or UFC fight) was on TV
-it has nothing to do with the team or the product they put on the floor - everyone's attendance is equally way down due to common factors

I would have gone if it wasn't on a Wednesday night. It's hard for me to get to weekday games. The team is bad and has been bad for too long; that's the reason for poor attendance. There are plenty of other negatives associated with the event that don't make me want to go. Parking is annoying, the timeout entertainment is awful, they do almost nothing to get the crowd involved, beer is expensive, the MC is awful, etc. All of those problems would be overlooked if the team was better.
I can do all things through pasta, which strengthens me.

I believe they honored a 90 year old man at the game. If he can get there it makes you wonder about those missing.

Yes, Dale has been to virtually every home game for something like 60+ years. I always saw him and his wife at most road games until their health made the travel difficult. Congratulations Dale!

I'm trying to find a reason to leave my recliner on NFL Sunday and go to the Civic Center. Can anyone help me?

the ushers weren't bothering to keep people out of the lower bowl - so I did see some upper bowl, nosebleed section folks
sneak down and poach a few seats - camping out down in the premium seating section -
but still even they got up and left in disgust before the game was over....even though obviously some - even Geno - thought
the game could still be won - as GF called a timeout with 18 seconds left hoping to make up the 6-point deficit in a
miraculous-Reggie-Miller-like way even though nothing else had gone right all night..

the powers that be were so sure that "reseating" the lower bowl and running long time fans off just to free up a few seats near the court was going to help attendance and revenue...
Of course it backfired big time..lots of those long time, loyal, lower bowl patrons who were also big time, lifelong donors to BU basketball - simply gave up and told BU to f/o - and have not been back - it is sad, sad - to see so many of the long time fans now gone forever - all done in the name of lust for a few high dollar spenders maybe grabbing up those premium seats..
But in the process - they stomped all over the average guy- the guys this program was built on and for...
Now they're going after the upper bowl fans with comments like..they don't make a thing off people in the upper bowl because those tickets are just 8 dollars - thus it doesn't matter a whit if those people just stay home...
                  OMG - this is insane...

Cross says the average revenue per person goes down What a math genius! What he then implies is that they actually are losing money when $8 seats are sold and also when students come to games? Really?! What paying customers did they replace? The **** arena is nearly empty! He's such a fool.

Maybe the "large Peoria contingent" left early to spend more time in Charleston before the big game tonight.

I would've been there but I had to work that evening. I will be at every home game when I'm not scheduled to work.

Agreed, if anyone says something like the are 'losing money' selling $8 tickets they should never be allowed to manage a budget and need to take remedial accounting ASAP.
