  • UNI Post Game Thoughts

    Discuss amongst yourselves ...

Anyone a little worried we gave our last scholarship to another guard, after that one?

Perfect example of why most teams can't play 4 guards...but I'm not jumping off the ship, this team is still going to win a lot of games.
    Go Braves!

Why can't we figure out how to have a decent first half on the road? We just keep digging big holes!! What is up with Zach? He has to give us more on both ends of the floor!!

The poor first half aside, I thought we played very well to get back in the game. Every time we got within 4-6 points down though, we lost our composure (bad shots, turnovers). On top of that, our free throw shooting wasn't very good until the game was out of reach. UNI came up with big shots in the second half to counter our comeback, and unfortunately, Bradley very seldom responded with a good play when they desperately needed it to keep the pressure on them. I really thought we had them on the ropes at the 10:00 mark, but they caught their second wind and came out on top. A better first half on our part wouldn't have put us in the position we were in in the first place.

UNI has the best front court in the Valley IMO. That is our weaknesss and it showed. We will do better when it is a Guard vs Guard teams.
If you build it, the students will come.

Zach is an great athlete and not a great basketball player and it shows with his inconsitency. Great athletes have some spectacular moments but dissappear at other times.

From 18 down to 4 down with the ball.

Alone - that is a nice comeback.

I know this much.......we cannot play all the Valley games with only 7 players.......too many minutes!

I would have liked to see AW out there. Bad week of practice or did Les just want him to see his first Valley road game before he threw him out there?

I know ZA had a bad game, but Salley killed us out there on both sides of the ball. Sometimes it seems like he just shut's his mind off during the game. One instance in particular in the second half we had climbed within 4-5 after being down 10+ points most the game. MS grabs a rebound, and instead of kicking it back out to set up a play he tries a spinning 7-footer into a double-team. It gets blocked, back the other way UNI hits a 3 and all the sudden we're down 8 again... Also, we need to play like men down low. period.

I'm very frustrated right now, that was a winnable game.
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

                      comeback

At this point in the season we do not need any moral victories down 14 and comeback to within 6.. I do not want to make anyone mad,we still got beat by 11..IMO we played terrible in the first half defensively and offensively.. The defensive pressure to open up the second half was key to the comeback, but we just could not get over the hump late...Why?

What ended that run was poor FT shooting. That killed us. At one point at the end of the run we were 2-5 with one being a front-end of a 1-1. Had they made the FTs it would have been a different game.

It's early, and road games are going to be tough. As long as this isn't a trend, I'm not worried.

I am worried, however, that everybody will just beat us up inside all year long.

Our guards don't play very smart. I don't care how good they are, they have to control the game much better.

You should not worry that everyone is going to beat us up inside. Why, because that is just the way it will be this year so there is no sense in worrying about it. What I would worry about instead is bad defense and poor FT shooting. These things can be controlled and are what lost the game tonight.
