Problem is, they want no part of the conference.
I have heard that they are not happy with the Atlantic-10, and a few years ago would have loved to jump back to the MVC, but at that time the MVC was not looking to expand, and several MVC members did not like the idea of accepting SLU because they would have a tremendous home court advantage in the tournament..
With the latest additions to the A-10 of several more East Coast schools, they have no real natural conference rivalries, and an incredible amount of travel. The closest A-10 school to them is Dayton (also rumored to be leaving the A-10), and the next closest is Duquesne, in Pittsburgh. They probably will join the Big East as has been rumored for a couple years, but so far, for whatever reason, the Big East seems hesitant to take them in.
I think it would be good for the MVC, which was weakened substantially by the loss of Creighton. But I don't see that it is as likely as it seemed a couple years ago when Rick Majerus was at SLU and pushed for it.

Yes. SLU sees the MVC as a down grade. It's their administration. They really think they will be where in Creightion is in the next 1-5 years. They have good rivals with Marquette and DePaul going back to the Great Midwest Conference.
If they are being vocal about the A-10, I really think it's to put pressure on the Big East.
A western section sets up nicely: SLU, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette, Butler and Xavier

St. Louis really helped their situation out with the building of their nice on-campus arena, and stepping up and hiring Majerus, then Crews. I still wonder if Crews can sustain the recruiting and overall success that Majerus had, and if not, SLU will probably fall out of favor in the eyes of the Big East. SLU fans have a history of being pretty fickle, too. They have drawn very well the last few years, but if they aren't winning, those numbers will fall quickly.
