  • BU Teams Bench Appearance

A note and suggestion for Geno and Chin.....The dress of some of the non-playing guys in street clothes on your bench at the last game was pretty bad and was an embarrassment to your team according to a number of fans who were seated behind your bench. Pants were dropped down very low so that butts were exposed and, aside from the game, your teams appearance was not very good.

How about some kind of reasonable dress code for games so that we can at least have some pride in how our team looks?

Wiz, I am glad you brought that up. I would have, but there are some people who already think I bring up too many negatives, even though nearly everything I post is factual, and my predictions have come to pass.

But as bad as the basketball was Friday night, and as many things as there were for fans to criticize, I have heard more comments from other fans about the clothing choice of the non-participating players on the bench than anything else.
One player had the typical gang-banger look with a tee shirt, and blue jeans pulled down at least 6 inches below his butt crack. Another player was dressed in jeans and a tee shirt, and only Barnes appeared to be dressed at least somewhat respectfully.

I would not make a big deal out of this issue, except I heard from several people in my section, and in conversations since Friday that fans thought it was disrespectful.
There was a time, not long ago, when the coach insisted that players dress to show respect for the university they played for. They were not allowed on the team bus or plane with sweats, or casual clothes, and wore ties and dress shorts and slacks.

My gut feel is that Geno is not a very strong disiplinairian, isn't intense and, doesn't demand a lot from his players. I hear they are often late to practice and that practices are usually not tough and demanding. The clothing of non-players at games is simply another example of this.

If I am correct in this gut feel assumption, this could be part of our problem.

        Geno doesn't dress great either.

My wife and her friend mentioned the same thing during the game. I'm shocked that Madame President and Dr. Cross wouldn't have them wearing a suit and tie to project a more proper image.

I notice this on both benches??¦some teams the guys are dressed in shirt and tie and others aren't. I can't remember which but I think some type of uniformity here would look good for BU

Bobby Parker.....Isn't this something the AD could implement? You guys throw a lot of money around trying to polish our image and yet here is an opportunity to do something positive that doesn't cost you anything!

I was listening to a Peoria morning radio show, the Royce and Roger and Friends Show on WAZU FM 90.7. They are on Mon-Fri/6-9 AM. The hosts discuss a lot of Peoria topics, and Peoria history, and this morning the talk was mostly about the Bradley game. But most of the discussion was not about the game itself, but about this clothing issue of the players on the bench. They really went off on the disrespectful dress of the inactive players, so it's not just fans here making this issue.

Can't they just wear their uniform & warmup and look like everyone else?

The two uta players who weren't playing appeared to be doing this. I noticed during warm ups that all they did was rebound during shoot around or stand off to the side.

I said this another thread, I don't think they all have to dress the way barnes did, but when they are all three following different guidelines it makes it seem like geno has no control.

My son is an 8th grader at Illini Bluffs. They wear shirts and ties to their games. They look great and the kids actually enjoy it. It creates respect for your program and teaches them that being a part of something good comes with certain expectations. Should be able to mandate this for guys who are getting a 40K/year education for free.
