Indiana State outscores IUPUI 15-2 in OT to win 79-66 onthe road in Indianapolis. Not a lot of flow in this game; Sycamores shoot 46 free throws on the road. Good thing they made 36 of them. Khristian Smith' Devonte Brown & redshirt frosh Brenton Scott play big.

Wichita State won but definitely did not look like a ranked team..
Just maybe a good team could challenge them in the MVC this year...

The Shockers were 0-11 from 3-pt range, but despite starting essentially four guards - they still outscored New Mexico State 50-12 in the paint.
ex-BU recruit and highly touted La Lumiere blue chipper Johnathon Wilkins played his first college game and was scoreless with 2 rebs, 2 fouls.

        BTW there is hope....
future BU opponent Robert Morris got clobbered at home by Lafayette - they were down 20 pts at half!
Box score for the Lafayette Leopards vs. Robert Morris Colonials NCAAM game from November 14, 2014 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

What makes you say that? Other than the shooting from 3 (first time w/o a 3 since 2006) and the charity stripe the performance was very high level.

Plus when we got a 25 point lead or so, Marshall started mixing in larger groups of FR together. That contributed to only beating a Top 100 team by 17.

In the final game today, the SIU Salukis nearly upset the Saint Louis Billikens in St. Louis. SIU lead nearly the entire game, but SIU tied it on a three pointer with under 2 minutes left, then went ahead by 3 on another three pointer with 10 seconds left. SLU won 62-59.

For Barry Hinson's Salukis, Anthony Beane had 14 points and no rebounds.
The star for SIU was sophomore Sean O'Brien, from Mundelein, Illinois, with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Sean was recruited by Bradley, but BU decided to go a different direction, and Sean ended up committing to SIU.
Tyler Smithpeters started and had 9 points (3-3 from three).

For St. Louis, they have a number of new players. Milik Yarbrough, who chose SLU over BU last April, had 2 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

Box score for the Saint Louis Billikens vs. Southern Illinois Salukis NCAAM game from November 15, 2014 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

Illinois State hosted Utah State in their 2014-15 opener. Utah State has moved to the Mountain West, and they lost much of their talent from the last couple years. They were picked a lowly 10th in the Mountain West Conference preseason poll.
But they played ISU tough, and came away with then win at Redbird Arena.

Final score: Utah State 60 Illinois State 55
Box score for the Utah State Aggies vs. Illinois State Redbirds NCAAM game from November 16, 2014 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

So the MVC goes 6-4 (4-4 vs. D1 opponents) with SIU losing on the road at SLU, ISU losing at home to Utah State, Drake losing to Bowling Green, and Bradley losing at home to Texas-Arlington.

You have got to be kidding - remember Dan Muller gave a 1st place vote to his team in the preseason coaches poll!..

He must be shocked that the preseason bottom dweller Utah State thumps his team at home - wonder if he would like to revise his pick
                  - maybe he had too lofty expectations, maybe he set them up to fail or caused them to fail by putting way too much pressure on them,
maybe he caused them to think they were far superior to what they are and that they simply didn't feel the need to work hard...

Any way you cut it - seems it was a very bad move to hand his team the trophy before the season started.
Deontae Hawkins is now 3-18 in his first two outings counting their exhibition - McIntosh 3-12 -

Now the MVC is a meager 4-4 to start off the season (vs. D-I's) - I thought the MVC was supposed to be lots stronger with 75% of starters returning?

in SIU's first game, Illini transfer Ibby Djimde injured his knee and will be out 4-6 weeks.

this is a busy stretch for the Salukis and they play 12 games in the next 6 weeks' stretch...Bola Olanyan is about the only other big man they have with any experience...
two kids - 6-8 Weiher & Armon Fletcher - did not play at all in SIU's 1st game with Barry Hinson saying he had plans on redshirting them - but he may be forced to rethink..

Does Wichita State look like a ranked team now?

Taking a pretty good Memphis team behind the woodshed midway through the 2nd half.

it'll be interesting to see how we do against them as we will be playing both of them...
