Geno's radio show was apparently bumped to Tuesday morning, same time.

It was because WMBD radio was broadcasting from Washington because of the 1 year anniversary of the tornado.

Geno Ford was on WMBD this morning with Greg & Dan. This time he was live in the studio, but the actual program was again about 10 minutes of air time, starting just after 8:40am and ending at about 8:50am.

Geno was very upbeat. When asked about the disappointing loss to Texas-Arlington, he said it is just 1 of 31 games. He compared it to a golfer who hits his first tee shot out of bounds, then 3-putts on the first green, "You don't quit, you just move on to the second tee".

He said he sees basically 3 issues with our defense that need to be corrected:
            1) Poor ball containment
            2) Help defense arriving too late
            3) Players double-teaming penetration

Then he also blamed the poor performances on being inexperienced- we played no seniors, and started 2 freshmen.

He stressed that we need to get a couple guys back- implying Barnes and Sutherland returning, but he did not comment on any specific timeline for Sutherland's injury.

Geno said there is a big difference between being 0-1 and 0-10, so fans should not be concerned yet.

He said the fact we played poorly is a bigger problem than the fact we are 0-1.

Geno was asked about the positives from Friday's game, but the only two things he mentioned were:
            1) Ka'Darryl played OK (8 assists and 2 turnovers) "for a guy who has been a 2-guard for the last two years", although Geno did say that in the film session they saw a lot of things Ka'Darryl did not do so well.
            2) Nate showed something we haven't seen much of in his first 3 years, he was "challenging shots".

Then he talked about what we needed to do better- he said we need better production from Ka'Darryl and from Xzavier Taylor.

Greg asked about whether we have good team leadership- Geno mentioned that Mike Shaw has tried to be a leader, but that he has only practiced one time since Oct. 27 because of his toe injury. Geno mentioned that Shaw's toe has flared up again, but he didn't comment on whether or not he would play Wednesday.
He said others who have tried to be leaders, Jermaine Morgan and Tramique Sutherland, are not natural leaders because they are quiet guys.

And finally, Geno added one more thing we need to do better- we need more toughness, not "street toughness" like fighting someone, but "basketball toughness" like not letting opponents get the better of you.

              .... we need more toughness....

But we heard repeatedly, even from Geno, that Ka'Darryl Bell was a "true point guard" and "pure point guard"and that he was recruited as a point guard.

and what happened to all that talk about how this team was the toughest team Geno's ever had?

Robert Morris, for all the hype, is coming into Peoria after two 30-pt beatdown losses, and surely we ought to be able to match them in toughness and pick up a win

Guess I was lucky. I never even heard 30 seconds.

The only thing I heard was that a bigger crowd at the Civic Center does not necessarily mean more money for the University, or something like that.

Basically saying that the $8 ticket made them zero money.

That's all I heard then it was over.

He is fortunate they aren't in debt after that terrible performance...getting zero money is what they deserve for the product on the floor the other night...but that's not his fault at all.

seriously --- so you're saying we're better off with the small crowds???
If that's the spin they are putting on crowds of 2000 at Bradley home games, then I guess I am dumbfounded.....
The very next comment undoubtedly would be - then it only makes sense to move all Bradley's home games to the smaller on-campus arena where we do make a little bit better profit margin...
...well folks, we're nearing rock bottom...but it seems to be exactly what some were/are asking for....

Remember - there were those who guaranteed it couldn't possibly get any worse than it was 4 years ago...

...btw - the game that prompted that comment was a close home loss to a tough MVC opponent with 2 starters injured (not a 30-pt blowout or a loss to a DIII) and still drew 8,000!

i heard Dr. Cross this morning. Spent a bunch of time saying bradley was committedto d1 athletics, "entrenched" etc. And then talked about all the other sports that BU does well in like womens softball and cross country...then went on a speal about how increased attendence at Carver isnt always that good because upper bowl tickets are only $8. Which makes no sense unless the rental agreement requires rent to go as more tickets are sold. I got a heavy BS vibe from bim. Soundsd more like a politician trying to polish a turd or getting ready for an about face.
