Now Max is going to visit Indiana - http://www.chicagohoops.hoops247.com...sit-to-indiana

he's probably hoping Hawaii & UNLV offer....seems to want to tak every visit he can - I guess he's not really interested in putting any of his own thinking ability into this decision - he's just gonna see who persuades him the best

We all know it's going to be a rebuilding year. Faithful BU fans are willing to take our lumps with an optimistic outlook for the future. And I think the future looks great with the new AD/coaching staff. So, why all the angst over a local, one-and-done Big 10 backup player? Using up one valuable year of experience for a potential recruite?

Max 'Mashing' here on BF.com -

Just something fun to do while waiting for Coach Wardle to impress us with another 2015 recruit, and, waiting for Nov!

sadly this is the 4th alcohol related arrest since the end of last season
add a couple more alcohol-related issues...they're not gonna have any players left...this is Holt's 2nd known alcohol related arrest.
Indiana sophomore forward Emmitt Holt and freshman forward Thomas Bryant were cited for illegal possession of alcohol early Saturday morning.

the last round of IU alcohol arrests led to their starting big man & backup big man transferring to ETSU...now ETSU has 4 DI transfers just within the past couple months

No one was arrested they were cited for underage possession. The bottles had not even been opened, that is why there was no underage consumption as well. I realize that every university has athletes that drink, but it sure seems to me that IU has some of the dumbest as much as they get caught.

I know for a fact Bradley players drank during the season when I was at Bradley because I let them in with their fake ID's to The Lucky Lady, and had a conversation with about 5 of them not long before they played Villanova when Kerry Kittles was there.

                IU's Emmitt Holt gets dismissed...
The other player with the same infraction, Thomas Bryant - not dismissed.

The alcohol-related offense was the 2nd violation for Holt

Holt is a relatively inconsequential player who is not expected to be a contributor and whose loss won't affect the team
Bryant is a 5-Star immediate impact-type player that the coaching staff expects to be instantly beneficial and an instant help

Holt will be a loss for IU, he was expected to be the primary back up to Bryant. The reason for the dismissal was this was the 2nd alcohol related incident in less than 12 months. Looks like Max may get more minutes with this latest development.

Most on the IU boards are not happy with this decision and feel it was too harsh for simply having an unopened bottle of alcohol, while having no signs of alcohol consumption.

I can understand why they are not happy, but underage possession is still illegal. Holt and Bryant were caught trying to conceal a bottle of vodka when a police officer approached the car.

Holt is underage, as is Bryant. Most colleges apparently have a much stricter alcohol and substance policy than Indiana has for student athletes, which usually spell out the consequences of violations. And a violation is still a violation, regardless how it is parsed. At some schools, Holt would have been gone after his first violation, and few would have hesitated to launch him after his second. But apparently, Indiana's code of conduct allows the coach or AD to use their discretion, no matter how severe the violation, and how many times they've been caught.

Holt was in an earlier incident last November, nearly killing a teammate (Devin Davis) and causing a serious head injury that prevented Davis from competing the entire 2014-15 season. Holt had been drinking (again, underage) prior to getting behind the wheel of his car, and plowing into teammate Davis.

Indiana players have had a rather extensive string of alcohol and drug related issues in the last year and a half, so it is nice to see someone finally step up and show some discipline, instead of suspending the kids for a couple meaningless early-season games like the penalty Holt got last time for nearly killing his teammate-

+1. If you almost killed someone because of alcohol, you should be nowhere near, nor want to be near it ever again.

There's certain behavior & accountability that the player AGREES TO when he signs his scholarship agreement.
Clearly he UNDERSTANDS and agrees to the Athletic Code which includes NO UNDERAGE DRINKING.
If you violate the very terms of your agreement/contract then who is to blame?

It is sometimes hard to tell the difference between "Lack of discipline" vs. "Lack of compliance with discipline"...
Both will ruin a program but this disaster recently at Indiana is lack of compliance with discipline - those kids who have been dismissed have all had multiple chances then been reinstated, then violated yet again. In the end all the kids who were booted at IU either already have or will land at midmajors where their talents clearly are far better suited.

NBA player and ex-IU Hoosier Cody Zeller seems to be trying to put up a defense for the two booze-ticketed players...but it's a pretty weak defense that shows the whole campus is loaded with lushes..
"...234 drinking tickets written by the excise police that weekend (on IU's campus) ...
Of course, the two you hear about are the Indiana basketball players.”

and it's all great news for Max Bielfeldt who with all the departures & expected suspensions, Max will get a decent shot at playing time.
...and did you see this - Michigan - worried that they have no replacement for Max and wondering about finding someone to replace MAX BIELFELDT!!!

now the truth coming out that four IU basketball players were involved in this incident- the two we knew about plus...one of whom is already gone (Hanner Perea - who previously had at least 2 other alcohol & drug issues) plus Juwan Morgan.

I am beginning to think maybe lack of serious discipline over the past several arrests has fostered a lax sense of needing to stay clean...
This is way too many players involved....
if they hand out the proper kind of discipline they won't have enough to field a team.

Kinda sad but ISU Transfer Nick Zeisloft is now being blamed for all the turmoil at Indiana...
he is a senior and was brought in to provide leadership...

                            "Very disappointed in Zeisloft.
We were told last year that Crean brought Nick in to provide leadership. Now CTC says that one of our biggest problems is we don't have any leadership. I was really counting on NZ to clean this mess up. What happened? Rivals should start giving star rankings based on leadership. Maybe then we'll fully understand CTC's recruiting decisions.
These incidents do show a lack of leadership, but it's from the top down, not the bottom to the top. You can blame players for accountability, but not lack of leadership."

anyway - the sheer volume of DUI's arrests, suspensions, etc...at Indiana reminds me of the way it was at SIU during the Chris Lowery/Jamaal Tatum/Nick Evans/Justin Bocot/Diamond Taylor era ( 2007-10) - and everyone said that Lowery was handling it fine and that the transgressions were minor, everyone's doing it, let the system play itself out, no discipline - kids literally back on the court within minutes after getting out of jail, etc...
There were an awful lot of people here, myself included that said as far back as 2007 that Lowery was handling it poorly and that his lack of discipline was going to blow up in his face and cost him his job. Well- nobody wanted to believe it because many of those guys were pretty talented...but it happened exactly as predicted here.
SIU to this day has NOT recovered and have been a bottom dweller ever since. Funny how their downfall was recruiting talented kids who were a bust off the court - our kids were also a bust off the court but we didn't get on-court talent to go with it.
