    • Here's an interesting hire...

Prairie State College just hired ex-Chicago Bears football player Chris Zorich as their new Athletic Director..
Chris Zorich, a former Notre Dame star and Bears defensive lineman, was named the athletic director at Prairie State College. Prairie State is a two-year community college in Chicago Heights, Ill.,…

he has absolutely zero past experience whatsoever working in any school's athletic department - and also has had a few "incidents" since ending his pro football career.

Bringing more than 50 years of coaching experience combined, a plethora of NCAA Tournament appearances and a litany of recruits who turned into professional players, the FGCU men's basketball team has added Tom Abatemarco and Senque Carey as assistant coaches, Eagles' head coach Joe Dooley announced on Tuesday.

Buffalo - Bobby Hurley left for Arizona State - hired Nate Oats
Buffalo tried like crazy to keep Bobby Hurley - even getting boosters & donors to come up with $1.25 million to try to convince Hurley to stay at Buffalo...

but Hurley left anyway...so what's Buffalo going to do with all that extra $$$??
Perhaps some won't materialize now that Hurley is gone but they do have a nice windfall...and they do have some new construction to pay for.

has found a new job... he now works as a paid "consultant" to the head coach at Wichita State, Gregg Marshall.
            So he's a non-coaching coach...

As a Shocker fan, I'm ok with this. Jans made a mistake, it happens, and paid dearly for it. He basically lost his career over it. This allows a 2nd chance to prove himself. He's not allowed to have contact with Players/Recruits, only coaches, so there is no "bad influence" on the players. If he proves himself able to change and cut back on his drinking, I don't see why he shouldn't get a second chance.

              • He is indeed fortunate for the 2nd chance and that HCGM has that much faith in him...
What he did to get fired at Bowling Green was something that not too long ago would have only gotten him a slap in the face or at most a black eye courtesy of a jealous boyfriend and be labelled "crude" or "rude & obnoxious" or "playboy" or "salty"...
but nowadays things are viewed differently -

I think the main reason he got harsh punishment is because it was video taped. Which also begs the question. Why was someone video taping? If someone was doing inappropriate things, is your first response "I'm going to have someone video tape it then go back into the situation so I can catch it on camera" or should it be I'm going to excuse myself from the situation.

Either way, what he did was wrong, but I think it got a little overblown due to a video being made then getting "leaked" to all the right places. Deserves punishment but definitely not a Basketball Coaching Career ending event IMO.

                  • well, as we have seen with Rick Pitino - the ability to withstand improprieties & scandal are in direct proportion to how many wins you provide for the program...

                    • This isn't basketball - but it just might be the mother of all buyouts...

The LSU football boosters are well on the way to raising the $15-20 million to buy out football coach Les Miles...
even tho Miles is currently at 7-3 this season!
