nobody (outside of BU) has done more than the people on this message board to help make known these events and talk them up...
...so of course we know about them... but the bigger concern is getting to those who don't camp on the message boards - I was glad to see a column in the paper

And attendance at games and other events is down "some". Donations are down "some", too.

No scoffing intended. Legitimate question as I want to make sure everyone understands exactly what the two preseason events are. I understand the confusion that may exist over the use of the Red-White moniker, but it should be associated more with the Spaghetti Supper style of event.

No we didn't, but we ate good, socialized and had a great time meeting the players and LATER on most of us went to the red-white scrimmage on another night. Scoff all you want, but if you're happy with the fan support after all these changes so be it.

an expression of scorn, derision, or contempt : gibe; an object of scorn, mockery, or derision… See the full definition

Again with the scoffing....I just asked a question..

Heck....I liked the post season banquets but they don't have them anymore....that's the way it goes.....life goes on.....

I get that some here want all the traditional things back in place and I can understand some expression of dissatisfaction...but this keeps going on and on.....I know, I know, I don't have to be here on this board.....maybe it would be a good time to bow out.........of course then you wouldn't have anyone to debate(argue) with

              Red-White River Jam Updates

Lefty...Are you purposely misunderstanding posts that don't agree with you? Of course there was no scrimmage at the ITOO event. The old preseason kick-offs consisted of two events....The R & W scrimmage AND the ITOO supper. As I stated, I much prefer the old ITOO event instead of what we now have and I also prefer a Red & White scrimmage like we had in the past.
In addition to being a kick-off event for the coming season, the ITOO Hall supper was an outstanding annual social event where BU fans could meet and talk, meet players, have a drink at the bar, play cards, participate in door prizes and drawings, and enjoy some great food. Now we have face painting, balloons, photos with Kaboom, and co-ed basketball contests but no Red & White scrimmage! Maybe we'll kick off next year with an ice cream social!

Don't leave Lefty because someone disagrees with you. If that's the case I would have been gone a long time ago.

Lefty....Don't leave the board just because we disagree occasionally. We need your viewpoints and perspective which helps spice up things and we enjoy the post debates. Hang in there!

The reason some of these negative viewpoints don't seem to go away, and there are some who seem constantly aggravated by them, is because there is not a single scintilla of evidence that the program is better off because of all the changes. In fact all the evidence points in the opposite direction. Just maybe some of the changes people complain about here are part of the reason for the unrest, and the huge dropoff in attendance and donations.
But if people like changes just for the sake of change, then they must be joyful with where the program is and has been since all the changes started.

Not purposefully misunderstanding wiz.....I used to go to the RW scrimmage and enjoyed it....they don't have it like that anymore. They are having the open practice so you can see some basketball and having the jam instead of ITOO.........really, some of us should have our face painted....really I think BP has explained it pretty well regarding expanded seasons in sports and different time tables than they use to have...and you have the gender equity thing to contend with as well. I don't have any preference at all on what BU does really. I hope it all works out for them.
I went to Bid for the Braves and they made some changes on how that went and I thought it was great...no idea how this will work but at least they are trying to get some younger folks excited and I think that is a plus.
I would probably prefer the scrimmage as well instead of practice but change is going to happen whether I like it or not.

I have no idea but I wonder if some of the most successful programs like Duke,KU,UK, and others do things differently now in preseason than they did 10 years ago....

The last time the Red-White was held on campus as a men's event was 2007 and the attendance was almost 4000

and oddly this post was a conversation between wiz and I predicting that we'd take heat for even bringing this up....deja vu
..but I guess when the truth hurts, attack the messenger...
attendance at all these events has plummetted severely to around half or less of what it used to be - including the games...
so what's the cause? If the massive loss of fans & revenue is of any concern to those at BU, then nothing wrong with a few suggestions...
..but having given a few of them, I guess I will move on...
As I said once before if I sold cars and suddenly half my business disappeared, I'd want to know why and I'd ask several of my long time customers and maybe even a few of those who I don't see any more - I wouldn't call them up and level comments of "unloyal" or "ignorant" or "disagreeable"

                          Red-White River Jam Updates

Bobby P....Please understand. IMO and in the opinion of many others, the single open practice you and/or Geno have scheduled is NOT_NOT a replacement in any way for the old Red & White Scrimmages. In the past, we were always able to walk into the Field House and watch all or part of a practice. Now we cannot.
Also in the past, we had the annual Red & White event which in no way replaced open practices. Clearly, these two events are separate and one should not replace the other.
Again Bobby, I wish you guys would listen to people and fans and not keep presenting rationales for preseason events which are not working well and for the overall lack of any success in the basketball program ( drastically reduced attendance, few good wins and many losses, Diminished fan interest, etc.) See you Friday.

                            Good Ole boys

I hope BU has a great season and we get moving in the right direction. I think the pre season events that are up coming are a push by BU and its athletic department to make changes that are fresh and new ideas and try something different. The old saying keep doing the same thing over ad over and expect better results is insanity. I don't always
agree with the changes they have made but sometimes you ought to give things a try before you complain. I think what is happening here is the Good Ole boy network that has been here for years is feeling threatened because they don't get to do the things they always have done. No more trade outs for services you actually have to get the check book and spend some real money. Good Ole boys used to go to practices and sit around and so they could be in the loop and have inside info and then tell all their friends how much they know about things to boost their egos. Guys this is a struggling business that has to fix itself by winning and taking in money that benefits all the fans not just the elite know it all ego maniacs. I just want BU to be successful and win! That is when it is fun.. Bobby keep working hard and stay positive things hopefully will get better. GO BU!!

I am not disagreeing with anything you said, only that I never thought things were so bad to justify all the changes that have been made, and there is no evidence that I see that the changes have resulted in anything being improved.

There is another pretty good saying that I believe in strongly:
"If if ain't broke, don't fix it."

I think that there is a lot that is broken and a lot to fix.
