  • Red-White River Jam Updates

I have set up a new page for BradleyBraves.com that will provide the latest information for the Red-White River Jam:

Bradley Athletics introduces the inaugural Bradley Basketball Red-White River Jam fan festival to tip off the 2014-15 season Oct. 17 on the Peoria RiverFront.

Famous Dave's and Qdoba both will be food vendors next Friday and the schedule of activities has been added.

Bobby- are the uniforms shown in that picture the new Adidas uniforms? They appear to have the Adidas logo.
And is the player shown Donte Thomas, who is listed as wearing #1 on the roster?

nine days 'til the Red-White - makes me remember a few of the past Red-White exhibitions - especially the years leading up to the Sweet 16- and the fans could instantly see that we had a really special group of players that were gonna accomplish a lot...

I would like to go but it's a Friday and my son plays high school football. If these things could possibly be held in the future on another day I think it would be better. Friday in the fall is just a bad time.

DC - yes on both counts. New unis and Donte Thomas.

As for the date, hard to find a date and time that works for everyone. Friday, Oct. 17 this year is both the traditional first-day-of-practice day (of course, the NCAA calendar works different now) and falls during Homecoming weekend. The soccer game against Central Arkansas is Saturday night, so that knocked Saturday out. Hopefully, the 5:30 start of the event and 6:30-7:15 window for basketball activity allows fans to come check out Bradley Basketball and get to a local high school football game (without knowing where the game of interest for each fan is being played). And if HS football is not your thing, we hope you can stick around and enjoy the party on the RiverFront.

As for the "dumb event" comment: why knock something before it happened? Everyone has different tastes and some may not enjoy this type of event. But the traditional Red-White Scrimmage had grown stale and we wanted to try something new that had the potential to appeal to a wide audience. It is impossible to please all of the people all of the time, but we are making an effort to reach out to our fans with a free event that still offers many of the elements that they enjoy, particularly the opportunity to mingle with our student-athletes and coaches. We think the River Jam will provide a great opportunity to showcase the athlecism and skill of the student-athletes, but more importantly, give everyone an opportunity to meet-and-greet with an engaging group of young people who will be representing the Bradley community this winter. And while you're there, why not enjoy some live music from a great band and some tasty food and beverages served up by some great supporters of Bradley Athletics and our community.

I agree - nobody's forced to go - the other events out in the community were well accepted...
I hope this one goes over well

I agree Bobby not sure"dumb event" is a defining description unless it is cold and rainy. Sounds like a very fun evening . Hope the weather man helps out.

just gotta hope there's not weather like we are currently having - cold, rainy...
Most events I have been to down at the riverfront are more young people than "gray-hairs" just due to the walking, standing, etc...that is required.....so I hope we can draw a lot of young people.

Maybe Bu fan misses the old ITOO get together. I know myself and many others wonder why it was stopped. Always a good crowd and a fun way to meet the players. Maybe it's because the last coach thought it was a good idea.

the older folks just don't like the breaks from long standing tradition..

recall, I have documented elsewhere that our old Red-White games always drew at least 2400, and even 3500 & 4000 - and those were paying adults - not students let in on passes nor seats supposedly sold but nobody sitting in them.

Changes from the old traditions have indeed cost a lot of fans - (as was noted elsewhere - 15 of the 16 separate men's basketball events held thus far at Ren-Col had very disappointing attendance) and what's worse is that there are those who don't see it or deny it and keep changing even more traditions thinking it's good policy when it's actually hurting our attendance & fan base...
