By the way, who was it that constantly pounded the last coach, called repeatedly for his firing, and "talked up" Geno's hiring?

I think people would have more of a point against Wessler hating Jim Les if he DIDN'T call out Beckman.

I'm not much of an Illini FB fan but I'd enjoy seeing them win....
But Beckman's first game as Illini coach was 9/1/12 - so he's been coaching the Illini barely more than two years -
given how many of his freshmen have redshirted - that means he has a young, inexperienced team and extremely few of his experienced players are even his recruits...
and his quarterback & team leader is only in his 6th game under Beckman..
Wouldn't it be fair to give the guy time to get his own recruits in place before levelling endless criticism? This isn't the first attack piece plus there have been a hundred criticisms via twitter as well.
I guess I am also a bit stunned at the amount of criticism - when Illinois football has really never been very successful - and when it was, we saw the same criticsms than anyway.

I enjoy some of his work - and he's fully entitled to his opinion but often his pieces employ bitter bias and pre-formed dislike that he fails to reveal...and he likes to word things so later he can deny he said something..
-there was the long series of articles attacking Bradley for their expansion plans only later to reveal that he was hardly being honest or objective about it - as the plans he claimed were not being made available were on public display in the Fieldhouse right outside the Athletic offices & his own boyhood home & home of his father were among the homes that Bradley legally bought and he was unhappy about it.
-he also just recently revealed he soured on Jim Les in year-two and began to "drop the critical hammer" in an effort to sway public opinion to get Les fired.
He claimed his reasons for going after JL were:
"They were seriously flawed, lacked discipline, didn't play good defense, and weren't on the same page.
...I found it unacceptable. ...another opening-night exit from the play-in round of the MVC tourney, yes, I dropped a critical hammer on Les and his program."
So - KW wasn't willing to even wait beyond JL's 3rd year and began the drumbeat to get him fired...he actually hints that some of this even started before JL coached his first game!
(btw all those reasons are present currently and way worse than in 2004-05, but we have a strangely different cheerleader/PR approach now)
He never said any of this back then in 2002-2004 when he was doing it - he only revealed it recently on the message boards.
-then he writes a full column about a couple of minor woes at BU and asks if Bradley is a renegade program - then claims he never called Bradley a renegade program even though I am sure he knew his words had exactly that effect.
btw- the last couple years have had way more of the very issues he cited in calling BU renegade - including arrests, suspensions, and serious academic violations...only now many are being kept out of the papers.
BTW - I am on record as saying I didn't want Molinari fired in 2002 cuz I knew the incredibly talented young guys he had (Granger, Tucker, Tisby, etc..) would leave & that the hiring proces would divide the fan base...
& I didn't want JL fired in 2011 as I knew we'd lose a lot and have a long stretch of the worse ball we've seen in decades...and the hiring process would divide the fan base
and I am on record now saying we should NOT make any change in coaching staff now -- but there are changes that need to be made.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the prevailing opinion among a lot of fans. I was with a bunch of friends last night who all used to be Bradley fans and season ticket buyers. Over the last 2 years all of them have dropped their tickets, as I did this year. Some of them said they had lost interest or had other interests and some said they don't even care any more. Mostly it was the depressing state the program is in and the fact the changes that have been made and the promises of improvement and championships was all a charade. But the one thing it seemed everyone agreed on was how nonobjective and inconsistent the coverage by the Peoria Journal Star writers has been. So it's not just a few people who see through their sham. Its a lot of people. Most had dropped their subscriptions, and a couple said it was because of Kirk Wesslers previous unjustified attacks and his shilling now for the new administration. I thought: it's really too bad. Bradley used to be a team that the fans could take pride in and we used to have a good newspaper that covered stories objectively. Now neither is true and hasn't been for a long time.
I guess I just never run into all these people that complain about the injustice of the Journal Star. I only hear about it on this board.....

lefty - it's like strolling to the water cooler and listening to a dozen folks chatting about a topic - then saying "I guess I don't ever hear anyone talking about that topic"...
But you just did....
This is where people do talk about it - so whether you hear it elsewhere or not then how can you discount/discredit their opinions?
But I see/hear it all the time elsewhere -- ISU fans moan about some of their coverage, the SIU people do, and the Illini people do..and I heard people with similar talk about Theobald, Lien, etc...
It goes with the territory of being a "pot stirrer" - as many have said - it's their job to agitate, get under people's skin, and get people talking, right?
I guess if nobody read them, then nobody'd care and nobody'd be talking - then the guy'd get canned, so obviously we are helping save his job - he should thank us.

who is discrediting an opinion? I've only heard about dissatisfaction with PJS and KW on this board along with one troll on the other board
Like I said...I've heard stuff from folks that aren't happy about the state of affairs of BU basketball and administration...just nothing about the paper.....
It must go on all over though because people here say so....I just haven't heard it.

I have, but not to a groundswell extent. The difference in coverage is obvious, but I think that is more due to the Wessler/Les soured relationship than anything to do with KW and JG or Geno. Wessler had the poison pen out for Les from almost the beginning. Now he and Reynolds seem to be handling things in a manner I would call fair. I have no complaints about the current coverage.
