Here is a glaring example of how people love to promote absurd ways to spend other people's money. A team that Bradley played a few years ago, Jackson State University, a member of the SWAC, one of the worst, poorest conferences in the country, is planning to build a $200 million (much of it public taxpayer's money), 50,000 seat domed stadium that will host both football and basketball. The configuration for basketball will seat 17,000+. This would make it the 2nd largest college-owned domed stadium in the country (second only to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse). It would be severel times larger than the next largest FCS school's dome.
Jackson State has averaged about 15,000 fans per game over the past 2 seasons for football, and their basketball home average is about 1,000. So of course, this idea of a 50,000 seat domed stadium has come under a little criticism.
