Re: Pick-em for Wednesday's Game at Northern Iowa
Just thought I would comment on what was said here (I won't get inolved with the predictions), from a Panther perspective.
It's true that this is the first conference game in the McLeod Center. So far, the attendance has been decent, considering some of the teams aren't Valley level or 'name' teams. UW-Milwaukee has been the best name team thus far to grace the McLeod Center. So far, only two McLeod Center games have come when students were in session (not on T'giving and Christmas break). Those two were UW-Milwaukee and UMKC. The McLeod Center has 3,200 chair back seats (99% are pre-sold as season tickets), 655 north endzone bleacher seats, 1622 south endzone bleacher seats (student section seating), 328 north bleacher concourse seats, 500 observation deck SRO tickets (where the luxury boxes will be next year and in the future), 137 courtside seats ($$ courtside seats + press/players/coaches), and 268 concourse seats (temporary chairs/handicap spaces) for a total of 6,750 total sellable seats, with an additional SRO ticket sales for up to 7,018. My guess is that there are around 4,500 seats already sold for this game (going off of what is the norm for tickets sold online/that are available).
The UNI ticket office has had some major issues this year. To the likes that it's not worth going into, but hopefully things are clearing up. The online ticketing shows that there are no more seats available for sale, but the online ticketing never shows the student section seating, which won't be full with students. There are on average 1,200+ students at the basketball games, so usually about 400-500 seats are available the night of the game. The issue is, there has yet to be a Valley-esque game in the McLeod Center this year, so we don't really know what to expect. We also don't know how much the public is getting legit facts. The talk around town before the McLeod Center opened was the assumption that games had been sold out. That kept from alot of walk-up sales. So, there will be seating available Wednesday, just mostly the upper few rows of student section seating and observation deck standing. Trust me, it's been a little frustrating with the ticketing issues, but like I said before, hopefully they are clearing up (at least by next year).
As for the 'giving tickets away' statement...it was to the D3 game. It was the first promo for tickets, and it was b/c students were gone. To my knowledge, there is no promo for the rest of the games (although I think if you buy a ticket to the UNI/BU men's game, you get into the women's game free on Thursday). All tickets sold have been for face value, other than the 1,000 tickets available for $5 for the D3 game. There were maybe 100 students there...your basic Christmas break vs. a non-D1 opponent showing by the students. We had about 80% seating capacity for that game (seats you can actually sit in---not SRO).
The observation deck tickets are not purchased by season ticket holders as was stated before. They are basically GA tickets bought typically after all the chair/bleacher seats have been taken (unless the patrons want to stand). As I said before, this area will have luxury boxes that will begin construction after the season is over. The Alumni Association luxury box on the north end of the arena is suppose to be finished for the game Wednesday, but I'm not sure if it will be. It is located between the lower north bleacher seats and the upper north bleacher seats.
Who all is planning on coming? It should be a great game, with some contrast of styles, but hey, it's BU/UNI...it's pretty much standard that that is the case! If you plan on coming over the night of the game, you can at least get a SRO ticket. Trust me, there is not a bad place to watch the game in the arena. The furthest away bleachers are in the north endzone and are probably only 25-30 feet from the floor. It's truly a fun building to watch a game in. You are on top of the action, and yes, the rows can be kind of long, but most non-season ticket holders don't have to worry about that. And after being in the UNI-Dome, where rows are actually about the same distance, it's not bad...and we are blessed to have this new facility.
Anyway, just wanted to give some Panther perspective to what has been said already. See you at the game.
