The independent student newspaper at the University of Illinois since 1871

Illinois has banned Coors from marketing their "Official beer of the Fighting Illini" anywhere near campus!
However - Illinois is collecting a "Six-figure revenue" in their deal to allow Coors to promote their beer as the OFFICIAL BEER of the ILLINI

Only select fans can buy a beer at a University of Illinois football game, but according to billboards around the state, Coors Light is now the “Official Beer of the Fighting Illini.” T…

Coors has now successfully gained the advantage as the official beer of teenagers-

Next, they are going after the pre-teen beer drinkers-

And next they plan to target the child beer drinkers, and eventually the infant beer drinkers-

        Xavier also using ingenious marketing...

they have a "beer tent" at all home basketball games where they serve many "craft beers" - or local micro-brews...
..it's been very successful thus far...

...they also have dozens of new promotions....season ticket sales are up considerably -
they have almost 7,000 season tickets sold and have averaged 98% capacity with 116 sellouts over the past decade.

They drew 10,250 for a sellout of their season opener vs. Northern Arizona!!!
I suspect Remy Abell enjoys playing in front of such huge crowds....

With the large German population in and around Cincinnati, they are known for having some of the best craft beers in the country. The city of Cincinnati has several beer festivals each year, including the largest Oktoberfest in the country, and several other festivals devoted to their beers.
So it is rare to find any events in Cincinnati where beer is not one of the main features

Here is an interesting story on selling beer at college games

One of the arguments - in fact the single biggest argument - against it is that it will create more issues with drunkeness and disruptive behavior - especially students.

But it does not - as shown when NIU began selling beer at their football games.

The fact was that fans (and students) "binge drank" before entering the stadium and some were able to sneak the liquor in - so they always had ..
"alcohol-related calls during games" - requiring "University Police"
But the number of those calls has GONE DOWN since alcohol sales began.

as an interesting followup to this...
there's a thread on the ISU board about beer sales and one of their fans predicts this....

He's predicting if ISU serves beer there will be some brawls between ISU fans & Bradley fans..

"... fandom and alcohol aren't always the best mix.
There will be some incidents after games, especially
when rival fans from places like Bradley are in the
                    house."

To my knowledge such incidents have never happened before in Peoria, even though Bradley does and always has served beer --

I do recall a couple incidents where beer played a remote part in something odd....
-one incident where the drunken family member of an individual came down the stairs of the section behind the bench and shouted at our head coach..

-and I recall another where a liquored-up Bradley fan sitting near the opponents' bench nearly started a fight with the opposing coach prompting the coach to shout "I'll meet you behind the stands after the game"... LOL

But beer has never provoked any interaction between fans...even at BU-ISU games.
Bradley fans are among the classiest and best behaved in all the Valley...

Just giving the "do-gooders" something else to complain about.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Penn State to start selling beer at on-campus athletic events!

Students & many fans gonna be ticked...
"...only in private, controllable spaces, such as suites and club seats, as well as reception areas.
The service of alcohol is not being considered for general seating areas, including student sections.."
