  • More injuries piling up for BU basketball

one of the only healthy/available big men BU has, newcomer Jermaine Morgan, is now out several weeks -
after fracturing a rib during workouts...

    Mike Shaw - knee
Xzavier Taylor - fracture in foot
    Josh Cunningham - knee
Donte Thomas - recovering from knee surgery
    Auston Barnes - disciplinary

Dave Reynolds, who knows more about Bradley basketball than anyone, just tweeted this-

Jermaine Morgan breaks a rib taking a charge in workouts. Out til start of official practice Oct 3. Nate Wells only healthy big left for BU.

The PJ Star article says essentially the same thing, and doesn't mention Barnes-

What about Auston Barnes? Does that mean that Barnes is suspended or not participating with the team workouts and scrimmages? There has not been any report of a suspension. In fact, exactly 1 month has passed, we haven't actually heard anything new about the Barnes' situation since the day it happened.

What is taking so long for this issue to be decided?
And is Barnes suspended and not one of the available bigs? I don't recall anything about an injury to Barnes.

Here is the answer, thanks to Dave-

Just to be clear: Auston Barnes is practicing with Bradley. He works out with the wings hence my tweet about Nate Wells being only big left

So the confusion on my part was just a matter of semantics. Barnes apparently not considered a "big".
I am still wondering about the other issue though, and when we'll hear a resolution.

Have them wear football pads if they are running "Oklahoma State" practices.

....the injury tally is reaching an all time high -- reminds me of a little stretch back in 2006-2010 but spread out over a lot longer span....
when we lost Egolf twice, Taylor Brown, Andrew Warren, Sam Maniscalco, Daniel Ruffin, Sam Singh, Dodie Dunson, JP, and Jeremy Crouch - all to substantial injuries.

....but broken ribs in basketball are pretty unusual....
It doesn't happen often least of all at the college level - and in practice....
There's a pretty well known example - Andrew Bogut broke a rib last year but that's against NBA guys, in a collision with two other players, and Bogut is notoriously injury-prone anyway - it's basically been the hallmark of his entire NBA career.
Hope this is not another bad omen.

Dave Reynolds knows more about Bradley basketball than anyone else? At least I get my laugh for the day. Looks like DR is already getting the spin machine going so when things go badly this year he can remind everyone of the injuries the Braves had in the off-season and how it put the team behind everyone else.
To bad when the JS made all these changes in coverage of sports they didn't finish the job and put Reynolds and Wessler out to pasture and replace them with some of the GOOD young blood on the sports staff. Anyone would be better than those two.

well he certainly has more access than we do - it's obvious from some of his reports & columns he gets a lot of info direct from the coaching staff, and has the freedom to sit in on practices that a lot of fans do not have.
That being said, there are a lot of times his reports are simply taken from someone else's
