  • OT- BU volleyball

Just thought I'd post about the Bradley volleyball season, so far. There were predictions that the program was on the rise these last 2 seasons, and was headed for success.

This season, many people, including myself, had higher hopes for the volleyball team after improving their record last season (13-15, 7-11) over their dismal season in 2012 (9-20, 3-15).
Bradley backed into the MVC tournament last year with that losing record (13-15, 7-11), and qualified for the tournament mainly because Conference Champion Creighton left the MVC and was replaced with a far inferior program in Loyola. Unfortunately, they were quickly eliminated in their first MVC Tournament since 2005.

This year, so far, the results have not been so good. They are 0-6 after six straight losses to open the season against Hampton, DePaul, Stony Brook, Kansas, Denver, and Sam Houston State.
This is head coach Jenny Maurer's 4th season, and her cumulative record so far is 34-57, and 15-40 against MVC competition.
It's looking like it could be another tough season for the Braves.

BU volleyball lost last night in their home opener to Miami 3-1 to fall to 0-8 on the season.
Bradley rallied from behind to take the opening set of its home opener 28-26 from Miami (Ohio), but the Redhawks recovered to take the next three sets 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 and top the Braves to wrap up day one of the CEFCU Classic Friday at Renaissance Coliseum.

Bradley has only won 8 sets combined in their 8 matches so far this season.
They play 2 matches today (Saturday 9/13)- at 12:00 noon against UMKC (5-3), and at 7:00 pm tonight against North Dakota State (2-6).

        In remotely related news...
Bradley's former head volleyball coach, Sean Burdette, was hired as head coach for Green Bay volleyball

He started his first season with a tough non-conference schedule - the first two matches vs. Kansas State & Arizona... and currently sits with a record of 2-6

BU loses again - this time to start Valley play - losing 3 sets to 1 to Drake to go 0-11
Drake was the preseason pick for distant last place in the MVC

Bradley volleyball drops matches Friday to Wichita State (3-0) and Sunday to Missouri State (3-0) to drop to 0-14 on the season.
Bradley has now been shut out 4 times, and hasn't won more than 1 set in any match since the first weekend of the season (Aug. 29).
The stats for today's match were pretty ugly-

the third set Friday vs. Evansville was the longest volleyball set I have ever heard of...
Evansville finally won it 40-38 to take three straight sets and hand Bradley another loss.

Ouch. Bradley has not won a set in their last 3 matches, and they are now 0-15 on the season. Evansville is not a very good team (4-11 coming into the match), and had been winless in the MVC.

The BU womens volleyball program is an absolute and total embarrassment to the university! More proof that our athletic programs are in the tank under the direction of MC and JG and are losing big $$ in the process. Where in the world are the trustees and where in the world is the PJS for completely ignoring this major problem and its affect on our community.

BU volleyball goes down again, this time at home to Illinois State 3-0.
The BU record falls to 0-17, and 0-7 in the MVC. They have lost the last 5 matches 3-0, and and have lost an 16 sets in a row, and have won just 2 sets out of the 23 they have played in MVC play.

Bradley volleyball has officially become an embarrassment. They lost again at home tonight to Indiana State, 3-0. They are now 0-18 on the season, and 0-8 in the MVC in coach Maurer's 4th season.
Again Bradley goes down without winning a single set, 25-12, 25-14, and 25-13. That makes 19 sets in a row that they have lost, including losing 6 straight matches by 3-0 scores. They have won only 12 sets all year in 18 matches, and only 2 sets out of 26 in their 8 MVC matches.

The NCAA posted their RPI rankings for women's volleyball this past week, and it will be updated each Monday.
As expected, Bradley is near the bottom at #303, and they'll drop further after this week's two losses. -

While I agree that the issues with the volleyball are more important than a mascot competition, I see these events as completely independent from each other. Are you saying that BU thinks the mascot competition is more important?
